Blocking a Seller

A couple of weeks ago I posted about a seller who sent my pkg to the wrong address, denied, called me a liar when I said it had not been delivered to me, etc.  it was a nightmare.  Ebay did not do anything to the seller.  However, PayPal just refunded my money.  I want to know if I can block this seller’s items from showing up when I search.  I do not want to unknowingly  have any more dealings with this seller.

Re: Blocking a Seller

If you check the sellers rating and see how long have they been selling and how many items, you will know who you are dealing with.  The buyer has all the power by using feedback.  If there are more negative things said than positive, look elsewhere.  Or if a person has a good rating but only has sold a handful of items you might think twice.  I have had several items I ordered never show up or even ship and I knew when I bought them that they seemed like to good of deals.  If you look for the lowest price item it may not be the best.   It is hard to build up store on even when you try to do everything right, if you are crooked seller you would not be able to do so.

If you had any idea of what small time sellers go through to even sell on ebay and how many times customers try to get refunds by saying it was broken or it did not show up.  If there was a tracking number it would show where it went and if it didn't really show up you should talk to the delivery service it was delivered by.  Sellers have no control of it once it is shipped.  And if the seller does not have a tracking number and you say it did not show up ebay will take the buyers side.

I think you are sending that post to the wrong user. 😊

I am a seller and buyer. (sell on various platforms and buy most online but will source locally when available)

IMHO Sellers have it harder than buyers overall but i can still empathize with buyers that are frustrated and want a way to make there buying process easier.

Re: Blocking a Seller

Blocking a buyer, those buyers can still see your items, they just cannot buy them.

There is a way for buyers to not see someone's items. They would need to build and save a search, adding the sellers they do not want to see before saving it.

@chevymontecarlo88, @campanaelia , @coolcrapstore ,

Since SELLERS are ebay's only true customers, it is not in their best interest to give buyers a BSL Blocked Seller's List.  Imagine the outcry if sellers were to wake up one day and find out their listings could be blocked by buyers, but they would still be charged the Full final Value Fee percentage they take for sales.

Over the last few years a lot of people (mostly inexperienced ebay users)  have posted about bad sellers on various online blogs, category specific, and social media sites, and mentioned seeing a seller's name from one, on these boards.

I've seen some of the posts online, and often when pushed the poster end up admitting not following the MBG terms, or thinking that it was a catch all protection against their mistakes.  If there were a BSL, people without a lot of ebay experience who have read about sellers on those sites, might start adding sellers to their list without at the very least checking the reported seller's profile to get an idea of who was really at fault.

As for new or infrequent sellers, they often do not get a chance to do more selling or want to continue, because of the way ebay's new seller info is laid out and how long it now takes to read through all of that info.  That added to the way ebay coddles buyers doesn't make a very inviting site to continue selling on.

Good post.

I understand you point but i don't think it would make a difference if there was a tool or not. (overall)

As a seller, if someone wanted to block me from selling or searching my items, no problem.  They would be doing me a favor because i don't need any extra stress or wasted time.

Sellers that are doing business the right way would not have to worry about such a block list. (well shouldn't worry) IMHO

You are still assuming that the only way to wind up on such a list would be to do something wrong.

There are some unscrupulous sellers that would consider submitting the usernames of their direct competitors to public lists of "bad" sellers if they thought a significant number of potential buyers might use the public list to populate a personal block list, if that was possible.

I am not against eBay providing a feature to allow buyers to block sellers using a central list the way that sellers can block buyers, but I doubt eBay would ever consider doing it, so arguing about it is not productive.

If such a feature was available, I can think of a few sellers I would add to my own list based on my own person experiences, but I do not think the feature would appreciably change my buying, though it might make some searching a bit easier for me.

If I was a seller or if I worked for eBay, I would definitely be concerned about how such lists could be abused by malefactors, or how naive buyers could be manipulated to add good sellers to their block lists for bad reasons.

Re: Blocking a Seller

Honestly i am assuming that i really don't care if there was a list or if i was on it. 😀 If some think it would help and they want to advocate for it, good for them.  Could it be used against some sellers? Maybe, but to what extent. If there were some users that wanted to be malicious by circulating a block list, i highly doubt they could organize enough users to make a real difference. JMO  Libel, Defamation and Slander is more likely to occur and you don't need a list. (happens already) Will Ebay implement it. No idea and don't care either way.

I get what you are saying but my opinion is that if it did (seller block list) impact anyone negatively, it would be minimal. (maybe even justified) My original post was not to defend or argue against a block list but to give the OP a little help on a way to help them search without having to deal with the buyer they had a bad experience with. Its all good and have no problem having a healthy discussion of ideas and opinions.

I subscribe to work hard, do your best and don't worry about what others do. Competition is healthy and i welcome it. It only makes you better. If some feel threatened (and act maliciously against you) by what you are doing, most likely you are doing something right.

Re: Blocking a Seller

How would ME having someone on a list of sellers I don't want to do business affect anyone else but me, they would be on my list not someone else's. That would be like putting someone on my blocked buyers list and that then would add those names to everyone else's blocked buyers list.

I have several saved searches that have more than a few names of people I don't want to see their items or listings.
