Best way to report a false item title/description

Was looking to purchase some speakers when I noticed the speakers in the picture were not what they were described to be. Its clear that someone had replaced their stock speakers with these aftermarket speakers and then put the stock speakers in the box.

I messaged the seller letting them know they weren't the correct item and pointed out 3 very obvious signs of such. I was polite and respectful, it occurred to me that they may have bought returned items and didn't know that the person who returned them had put their stock speakers in the box to get their money back.

The seller responded by discrediting me because I "only have 45 positive feedback" and telling me I'm 100% wrong. I proved beyond a doubt that the item is not whats being advertised. A simple google search would prove it as well.

Seems pretty clear to me the seller is attempting to rip someone off. What's the best option for reporting it?

@makii-34 While it's commendable of you to want to help someone else out, there is nothing you can do about this. A seller can sell the item listed as they choose. It is up to each buyer to vet the item being offered. Every listing has a report button on them, but you will not be able to get this listing removed for the reasons you are stating. Caveat emptor....

ebay will likely do nothing about it.

There is a report button on every listing to use for reporting the item.

Re: Best way to report a false item title/description

It's time to open a Significantly Not as Described claim with ebay, whcih you can do via My Ebay.  Either the seller will respond by giving you a prepaid return tag, or if they go silent (or rude), ebay will let you escalate the claim after about 4 days.  Follow the instructions ebay gives you, escalate when you can, and ebay will force the refund.

My mistake; I didn't realize you hadn't bought the speakers, and had just identified the mismatch from the seller's pictures.

Re: Best way to report a false item title/description

The best literal option for reporting it.
Click on "Report item" on the item page. Then select the dropdown lists and options below.

Report Category
Listing practices

Reason for Report
Search and browse manipulation

Detailed Reason
Misleading title

Why was it so hard for that information to be given? 🤔

@grandheadmaster

It's not that it was hard to provide the information, it's that most of us know in this situation the information is meaningless. EBay will never take action on that kind of report, simply because they have no way to verify that the item pictured is not what's in the title.

It's also pertinent to point out that this thread is 5 months old and the OP is long gone.

Re: Best way to report a false item title/description

@kathiec  OP might get a notification. I didn't post it just for OP. I found the page doing a google search, which meant others will potentially find it as well, so I decided to answer the question since no one did. I'd rather have a fact as an answer than just an opinion. At least now if someone stumbles upon the page it will be here. Even if reporting is currently "meaningless", we don't know if eBay's practices will change or if they keep records of reports for future use, or how the information might be used in the future. We also don't know how long this post will be accessible since it's online.

  Potentially letting OP report the item might have made them feel better and not be as upset with just a simple click if anything. Another possibility is that by giving the pertinent information it could have potentially prevented four other people from wasting their time responding to the post, but I guess there could be people that might just want to respond and bolster their eBay Community Member numbers.

  I appreciate the quick reply. Thanks.

Re: Best way to report a false item title/description

@grandheadmaster

I feel the need to clarify one thing: Despite your tacky little jab, none of the regulars who post here do it to "bolster their eBay Community Member numbers." We have high numbers because we've spent a great deal of time here, many of us for years, volunteering our time to help people. To insinuate that we do that just so our numbers are higher is just plain old insulting.

Re: Best way to report a false item title/description

Hi, I bought an item (electronic module) but its description is not as real : I can't use it for SAS, ABS, EPB, SRS (as it's written in its description) but ONLY for ECU (engine control unit) !!! We have to use it (with a computer) to know if it's same as its description or not.

In addition, this tool can only be used for cars marketed before 2012 and this is not clearly explained, the seller is talking about software, not cars.

I wrote to the seller to ask him to correct "item description", he apologized but did not correct them.

So, to protect Ebay's reputation and its buyers, where is your "report button" to them ?
