Did you mean:

Being asked to return product but also keep it.

I bought a gpu fan but the fan didn't fit my gpu despite being advertised as being for my gpu I was able to jury rig it but I did give a neutral review. I received a message from the seller.

This is the message:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sorry to bother you.
Could you give us a chance to make up for this issue?
What about that we directly issue the full refund back to you to make up for this issue?
We suggest that you do not need to return this item back to us.
If you agree, please start the return request with choosing the reason "change mind" then we will directly issue the full refund back to you there.

Please do choose the reason "change mind" for the return request as if you choose other reason it will cause very bad influence to our store."
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I assume that a return will just remove my review and thats why they want me too. But just in case I just wanted to ask if this could come back to bite me I don't really know the inner workings of ebay.

If seller wants to refund all they have to do is issue a refund, you dont have to open a return. They are being sneaky. If you do the "return" you want to choose "Item Not As Described" If you choose "Changed My Mind" they will more than likely not have to accept return because it is considered a buyer remorse situation. And they probably don't want you to return fan because the shipping back and forth probably cost more than the fan. No matter what they do, the feedback will probably stand. If you do get a refund they may send a feedback revision request. It is up to you if you want to change to positive. Do they have a History of sneaky business practices? Lots of bad feedback? I can almost bet you bought from a China seller.

Do not trust the seller, they are most likely trying to trick you. If you do like they say choosing "changed mind", they can close the return or force you to pay return shipping label for a remorse reason.  Instead open the return request for an item not as described, doesn't match photos or description/defective so you are covered by ebays buyer protection. Ebay will give them 3 business days to respond or ask ebay to step in on the 4th day. They can still refund you w/o sending the item back and you can still revise the FB after you receive the refund if you want to.  Do not close the case until you are refunded.

@acal5498,

The seller is trying to get out of paying the return shipping, and issuing a refund.  They will get your feedback removed if you use Changed Mind, as the reason for the return.  Do as suggested in the previous replies and file a dispute for not as described. Then the seller will have to pay for the return shipping and issuing a refund.

This seller has a decent feedback percentage, however if you had checked their feedback profile page and clicked on the numbers of neutral and negative feedback they received, to read only those comments, you would have seen comments similar to yours.  Also sellers who list most of their items as private listings in feedback are usually China based.  Never go by a feedback percentage alone.

Look at all their negative feedback, mostly for the incorrect item or item doesn't work. Of course they are up to something. If you don't want to return it, then I would suggest just don't do anything and don't communicate with them any more. Good luck.

Gives good advice above. Select Item Not As Described.

Thank you everybody for the help. I'm just going to ignore them Its just not worth it to try to get the money back. In the end I have a working fan even if I had to jury rig it.

Wish I could give everybody best answer.

@acal5498 I wish you would pursue getting your money back. That seller has over 1K revised feedback ratings; clearly they are getting people to remove negatives and neutrals and they are underhanded. They tried to trick you and shouldn't get away with it.

So you allowed the seller to get away with sending you an item that's not as described? Why?

All you needed to do was to open an NAD case.  Seller would have been required to send you a prepaid return label and to refund in full upon receipt of the return.

I was able to make it work in the end. The alternative is sending it back ordering another from another seller and doing without my gpu for however long that will take. Sometimes you make do with what you have especially when the alternative is just doing without.
