This has been a troublesome experience for me in the last few weeks. When I won an auction, I used to get an e-mail/text saying "YOU'VE WON!" At this point, I'd go on eBay and pay via PayPal. For purchases over $30, I like to use the Pay in 4 option. I'm not sure what I did, but now, when the auction ends, the eBay page has a note that I won, and payment will automatically be made in within one hour. I've always paid promptly in the past.
My issue is that I'm obviously not awake at 3am when the auction ends, so now I don't have the chance to use the Pay in 4 option, when applicable. I've tried removing my preferred payment methods so this doesn't happen, but that prohibits me from submitting a bid. I used the Help Chat, and was told this automatic payment is set up by the seller, which is news to me, as it literally pertains to every auction in which I've participated.
Is this happening to anyone else? Have you found a solution?

@safan80 wrote:@campanaelia Them blocking you is a great thing. They are driving away business and should make it easier in the future for ebay to "change their minds" about a stupid policy will drive down the amount of money going to ebay.@campanaelia wrote:
In the beginning I've messaged sellers but after many negative or no responses, and having one seller block me and 2 others reporting me thinking I was trying to bypass ebay's policy or accusing me of doing something outside of ebay it's not worth the stress. I prefer to spend my money where I'm not put in this situation.
I haven't messaged any sellers in a while and there was a laptop battery from a seller close by. So 2 nights ago I messaged them asking if they could turn off auto pay or send me an offer with their best price. I also mentioned the numerous threads they could check in the community for more details.
Since I never heard back anything I checked back today on the item and was going to buy it at the BIN price but instead was greeted with the message below at checkout.
So I do NOT recommend messaging sellers, NEVER again will I waste my time.

I actually really like automatic payments…I’ve been burned so many times from ppl bidding high on one of my auctions, winning it and then never paying…it takes a long time…5 day auction…waiting 5 days to get paid or not then having to resist…it’s a pain and it’s not fair to those who need the money.

Yeah the same thing happened to me with video games.

You seem to be under the delusion that eBay cares where you spend your money.
Because, where else are you going to spend it? eBay is but one of many mouths that feed the same beasts.
Note the major share holders in the following companies:
Ebay: Vanguard Group Inc, BlackRock Inc., Ameriprise Financial Inc, State Street Corp,
Amazon: Advisor Group, Vanguard Group Inc, and BlackRock Inc.
Etsy: Vanguard Group Inc, BlackRock Inc., Barclays Plc, Van Eck Associates Corp
Meta (FBM): Vanguard Group Inc., BlackRock Inc., FMR LLC/Fidelity
Target: Vanguard Group Inc, State Street Corp, BlackRock Inc., Capital World Investors
Walmart: Walton Family, Vanguard Group Inc, and BlackRock Inc.
The list goes on and on like this.

Let me go through your list:
Amazon - I do not buy there
Etsy: I do not buy there
Meta (FBM): I do not buy there / I only sell there locally so FBM gets no fees
Target: I do not buy there
Walmart: I do not buy there often. Occasionally I buy food there, but not the type of items I buy on ebay
I am also still buying on ebay, but only now from sellers not requiring payment info for auto-pay. I will never authorize auto-pay, so now who I do buy from on ebay is limited.

Hmm blackrock had huge loss this year.. I have feeling the sell there shares of ebay soon..
i wish somebody would buy ebay and run like it was years ago..
Sellers are listing less since this automatic payment not worth hassle..
I'm buying less too.

What I did was remove my payment information.
When I go to bid, I get a message saying I need to add it and that is how I know I'll be immediately charged for the item after the auction.
When I go to bid on an item and do not get the message, I know the seller has removed this requirement.
Many of the items I bid on are auctions in which the seller combines shipping cost. So, in this scenario automatic payment would not work well. The sellers would have to refund all that extra shipping cost afterwards. That is why they have opted out.
Please note when you pay, you will have to log in to your PayPal account each time. It may be a little less convenient, but you can choose which payment source the money is coming from through PayPal.

My solution is to stop buying on Ebay. This is so offensive and I have cancelled bids on auctions due to this payment debacle.

It is .. buying alot less .. There's no incentive to sell on here.
with all stuff piled on sellers.. I completely understand
