for people not wanting to read my novel- tl;dr: afraid to forfeit buyer protection but I suspect this item will still be "in transit" before my refund window is up. Is there a way to request, as a buyer, that ebay extend that window in the event the item ships a bit late? I ordered two items from two different sellers on the same day. Same location in India, same sort of item, fun coincidence. Thing is, although both had (by my standards) fairly delayed shipping, one was finally sent out about 2 weeks after the date they were ordered. The other, in the same city and ordered on the same day, has still yet to ship. Both sellers gave the (reasonable) "it's covid restrictions here, the item will be sent. thanks for being patient" sentiment when I messaged them both about a week after the order date to ask whether lockdown meant they couldn't meet the order and I should cancel, and that was okay. Thing is, the low end delivery estimate on the still-unshipped item is fast approaching and if the movement of the one that DID ship is any indication (stuck at ISC for a week so far and I'm told it could be much longer) I'm quickly losing faith that the unshipped item could possibly get here before the delivery window. I don't want the tracking to update a few days before the window closes and to have to forfeit the ability to report INR or INAD, as afaik I'd be putting 100% faith in the seller if I refuse to report the purchase in this situation, but I do want the item and don't want to take this sale from somebody having a tough time if it's out of their hands either. Anybody else have experience with buying out of India recently? Any sellers in locked down parts of India? Am I being unreasonable or is there a valid reason one seller in the same part of the country could get the item out within 2 weeks meanwhile the other can't? I know this is longwinded but I really don't like handing a stranger money and just blindly trusting them to keep their word like this, nor do I want to be unreasonable and yank a sale away from somebody if they're sincerely doing all they can and are in a tight spot. I'd like to extend the window if the item does actually ship (it's fairly hard to come by and I do want it, and it's not something pressing I need right this second) but will clearly not arrive before the refund period is up.
