It is important for users to be able to recognize various scams when they are encountered.

eBay cannot ban a user; eBay can only suspend the user's account.

Scammers rarely give up when an account is suspended. They register new accounts with different credentials or hijack existing accounts and continue scamming.

I do not know what the original message you received said exactly. Perhaps it was a general warning against exchanging contact information because that can be a sign of a scam, rather than an accusation.

Or may have been a specific warning about the user you were communicating with, in which case eBay may be in the process of suspending the account, or returning the account to the rightful owner if the account was hijacked.

If a scammer provided a phone number or email address via eBay messages, eBay is giving you a warning so you do not continue dealing with that user outside of eBay even after the eBay account has been suspended.

The email said it may be a scam, not it is a scam.

They don't know for sure if it's a scam or not, so they want to warn you.

Have a great day.
