Since ebay modified the stores a few weeks ago, I'm having a problem with enlargement of item photos.  I've been selling on ebay for 21 years and always when I clicked on the main item photo, it enlarged it.  Now when I click on any of my item photos, it goes to an all black page and the photo is much smaller in the center of the black page.  I thought that clicking on a photo was supposed to show the photo in a larger size, otherwise whats the purpose of clicking on it if it won't enlarge it.  I have firefox but also tried it on microsoft Edge and the same problem exists.  I sell only 8x5" signs (700 of them listed) and a lot of them contain only text and buyers need to see them enlarged to at least their actual size as they always were before.  Now instead of enlarging, they are reduced to a third of their actual size.  Any assistance from others with this problem will be appreciated. Zoom and supersize depend on the size of the original photo you upload to eBay.

If the longest side of your photo is:

under 500 pixels, eBay will reject the photo. A larger photo can be made too small if you crop with eBay's editor.

under 640 pixels (500-639), neither supersize popup nor mouseover zoom is available. The static photo may be displayed as small as 300 pixels.

under 800 pixels (640-799), a supersize popup will be available, but there will be no mouseover zoom.

up to 1600 pixels (800-1600), both supersize and zoom will be available.

over 1600 pixels, eBay will shrink the master image to 1600 pixels and the above will apply.

I see the same problem in your listings that you are reporting. There is no zoom assigned. Zoom is valid when the uploaded image is at least 800 pixels on the long side. When the image is only larger than 640 pixels, the supersize overlay appears. And when the image is less than 500 pixels on the long side, there is no zoom or supersize.

In your case, when I click to open the overlay, the images are displayed in the 300 to 500 pixel range (the same size as shown in the listing showcase). But that display does not represent the size you uploaded. In all those cases, I can pull out the photo URLs, change the sizing-numbers at the end from 500 to 1600, and I can see that you uploaded a photo slightly less than the 800 pixels required for zoom, but at least large enough for supersize.

There is definitely something wrong here, yet I don't see any other reports (possibly no one has checked recently). I would recommend that you contact support to let them know that there is a problem with the site, possibly related to the new store update.

I don't know if the issue is actually related to the store, or to the age of your account, or possibly to the fact that your photos do not qualify for zoom. Nonetheless, we have to start somewhere, so here is the link to stores help:

Scroll to the bottom, click the "Contact Us" option, and then type "agent" into the chat that appears. Ask that they open a "technical problem" ticket. Tell them that a forum mentor has independently confirmed this is an eBay technical issue. Your photos won't zoom, which is correct and is not an eBay problem, but the fact that they won't supersize on the black overlay is an eBay problem.

Thanks for the info.  Of my 21 years selling on ebay,  11 years have been selling this exact size sign & never have I had this problem.( until this last store modification).  As said from you & others, at 500-799 pixels I should get some kind of enlargement. All these signs are 768 x 480 pixels. I did contact ebay yesterday & the agent checked it and said she did not see anything wrong with the zoom size presented, whatever that means. She said she had filed a ticket with ebay anyhow & they would correct it SOON.  We all know that soon means never. In all my years with ebay and requesting help, probably 30-40 times, NEVER have I gotten a response except for phishing problems on 2 occasions.  I have 700 signs, any suggestions as to how I can up the pixels on all, other than doing them one by one?  Thanks

I don't have a store, so this is not a store issue. I have an old test listing with undersized photos and see the same problem there. If my initial 400px photo displays at 300px in the gallery, the overlay will display it at 300 px.  If my second 660px photo displays at 300px in the gallery, the overlay displays it at 300px. The other photos in that listing that have zoom (800 and over) display as expected.

I tested in four different browsers.

This is either a coding issue regarding photos that don't have the zoom flag, or it's an issue with older photos.  I'll independently report it as well.

Do you have any recently posted listings that do not carry forward from a sell-similar that we can check?

I just uploaded a new undersized photo to a test listing and see the same problem there. So it is affecting new and old photo uploads.
