I'm a seller wanting to cancel a BIN purchase from a 0 feedback buyer

Somehow my buyer preference setting was off and a zero feedback buyer just purchased a skateboard I had listed. I emailed the buyer asking for any info that would establish them as credible and asked if they're willing to accept a phone call to help confirm who they are. No response. If I cancel the order, it appears I won't receive a financial penalty of any kind, just asking here if that is in fact the case. And should the option I select be canceling because it's out of stock? Thanks

There isn’t a way to block 0 feedback buyers.  If they pay, you go ahead and ship to the address attached to the payment.  If they don’t pay, on day 5 you cancel as unpaid.  Otherwise, cancelling will get you a defect against your seller account.

Actually there is a setting in the seller options section to block feedback 5 and under, I just didn't have the apply button slid to the right for the list of custom options, not sure how that happened but I'll continue waiting for answers from a more qualified responder.

Why did you list this item if it was out of stock?  Or are you asking if it's okay to lie about the reason?  You didn't indicate whether or not the buyer paid for the board.  If the buyer paid, or pays within four days, the right thing to do is send him his skateboard.  If he doesn't pay, then on the fifth day cancel the transaction citing "Buyer hasn't paid" as the reason.

You'll be waiting a long time if you wait for somebody more qualified than @glorybells and I mean a real long time.  I didn't know about an option in the seller options to block buyers on the basis of their number of feedbacks.  Not challenging you on that, but I would like to have it corroborated by another seller.  @tenbigdogs   @comics-scifi-collectibles

@dealingdawg

Go back and reread this and open all the links as you go.
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

In this screenshot you will note the ability to block bidders with a feedback score of 5 or less only applies when that user is purchasing a preset number of listings from you.
So you can block all bidders from purchasing X amount of listings at one time. If you want to base that block on their feedback score, then you change the setting below that original block.

 eBay (any business, online or otherwise) would never get off the ground if only return customers could make a purchase.
Tjete has never been a function that allowed sellers to block bidders unless their feedback was below zero (-1 for instance). Since buyers can’t receive negative feedback, this is all but impossible.

IF the buyer has bought at least one of your items already. So NO you can not block a first time buyer from purchasing the skateboard.

You should read the policy more closely you you can become a qualified seller.

And YES you would you out of stock as your reason.  Good Luck.

No there isn't, you can't block new buyers.

You can block them from buying again for a certain amount of time.

Have a great day.

Re: I'm a seller wanting to cancel a BIN purchase from a 0 feedback buyer

Hi @dealingdawg  Everybody knows how you feel.  Many sellers are uneasy about new, zero-feedback buyers.  But there's not much that can be done about it.  Many, many users have confused that setting for multiple purchases with being able to block low-feedback buyers.  It's not worded the best.  If you do try to cancel this sale, don't use Out of Stock. That will get you an account defect and forfeit any seller fees.  The options that don't earn defects are like problem with buyer's address, which isn't really a lie for you since you have a problem with everything about this buyer.  Good luck!

@tenbigdogs

Thanks for weighing in.  I felt I was on shaky ground about answering the OP because he said "a setting in the seller options section" and, since I'm not a seller, I've never seen the inside of a seller options section, which now I'm not even sure there is any such thing.  If the OP had used the term, Buyer Requirements, in the first place, I'd have been able to give her/him a better answer.

Canceling and blaming the buyer is against ebay policy.

This seller is purposely  choosing not to sell to the buyer just because of having 0 feedback.... is in NO way related to anything the buyer has done wrong.
