Help with irate buyer, please.

I just started selling on Ebay again and this happens.  Order received on January 30, shipped on January 31st. Did not arrive on time on Friday the 3rd.  I had no idea it was a gift needed by a certain day.  It was delivered today after these angry messages.

Help with irate buyer, please.

If the buyer opened a not received claim and the package has now been delivered, respond to the not received by filling in the tracking #.

Then message the buyer and offer to accept a return, but gently explain that you will not refund until returned.  If the item was delivered after the estimated delivery date, eBay considers it not as described - you pay the return shipping and refund the original shipping.  Explain to the buyer that they need to close the not received claim (which eBay will close soon anyway, based on the delivery), wait a day, then open a not as described return.

In the future, never tell a buyer they have to wait any longer than the estimated delivery date.  Any insurance claim is to reimburse you, not the buyer.

Guess I am done selling on here if that's how it is.  After I posted this, they closed the case and gave me positive feedback.  I can't lose $40 for shipping because the mail is a few days late.

If thy left positive feedback, they probably won’t want to return it.

Most buyers won’t return something just because it is a few days late, but they can.  It is a good thing to be able to offer when the buyer is grumpy.

-Where did it ship from?

-Where did it ship to?

-What USPS Service did the Buyer purchase?

-What USPS service did you ship the package with?

-If the claim was closed and the Buyer left you Positive Feedback how are you losing $ 40?  I don't understand that statement ...

IF I had to pay for return shipping and reimburse original shipping, that would cost $40.

It looks like this situation worked out because it was delivered today, but I really don't want to go through that again.   If this is normal on Ebay then I am done. It's abusive.
