Help! I have an item the buyer who is a reseller completely ripped me off. She notified eBay that the item was chipped and it wasn't! eBay obviously required me to issue refund cost of item plus shipping and I immediately did! She kept the item never returning it!!!!! She said oh, I thought I returned it. Nothing more. Is there is no protection for us sellers????
can anyone advise or help me please. I have reached out to eBay and no response so if people figure this practice out what is to stop this from becoming a rampant problem???

Ebay doesn't 'require' sellers to issue refunds until the item is returned, that is, if the seller wants it back. But the seller has to answer and approve the return within the time frame set out in the case. If the seller does not do that, then the buyer gets the refund and is allowed to keep the item.
Unfortunately neither you nor eBay can force this person to return the item.

It's not a problem if you follow the steps provided.
When a buyer opens a Return case, you have the option to require they return it first before you refund, only refund when it is delivered back to you.
IF you already refunded first, then the assumption is you didn't want it back, now it's between you and the buyer to work out a return outside of the closed case. Have you offered to send her a prepaid shipping label?

Well thank you for your help. New seller mistake! I simply panicked and when notified by eBay I instantly gave money back. I lost it then. Sorry buyer reseller if you ask me. Pure theft!
again thank you!

It happens to other sellers too - probably more frequently than it should from what we see here, meaning eBay could use an update on how the return/refund options are worded and presented.
Maybe a warning before you refund.

that's a great idea @ferncliff-39 about the 'warning' b4 refunding. maybe bring it up on next week's chat.

Yes, this has happened to many sellers, including myself in the beginning, so don't beat yourself up.
Did you message the buyer to let them know you will reimburse them for the return shipping label or that you will send them a pre paid label?
