I have been selling on eBay for 20 years and thought I have seen it all. Every once in a while I sell a gift card I do not want to use. I sold one gift card and was getting it ready to mail and the buyer asked if I could send the codes right away. I even contacted eBay to see if this was okay and they approved. I started scratching off the codes and then just thought something was off. I checked the username of my buyer and the username of the person asking for the codes and they….were different. Then I knew it was a scam….my question is how were the scammers able to contact me the through my sold item (only 1/2 hour after sale) asking for the codes. Beware always check the usernames in your communications with members.

The scammer was able to find your completed listing and click on the "Contact seller" link on the listing page. Thank goodness you caught the scam before you provided the code to the scammer.
Whoever told you it was ok to provide the code was WRONG.
