Did you mean:

Can a buyer change the status of their return.

A buyer classified an item as "defective" and started a return but it was not defective, it was damaged in shipping. Because it was termed defective eBay will not refund my shipping and neither will Fed Ex as they state they have a contract with eBay to do this. I'm giving a full refund to the buyer since this was not their fault. The buyer offered to change the status. Can they do this?

Hi @dancingshepherd

Who told you that?

eBay never refunds a seller’s shipping money.  You should be able to file a claim with FedEx for the item price.  I don’t know if they ever reimburse shipping cost.

But to answer your question … it’s NOT possible to change the reason for opening a ‘return request’.

Re: Can a buyer change the status of their return.

Thanks for letting me know this can not be changed by the buyer.

Ebay sent the buyer a label that was "free".  According to eBay support, this cost came out of my funds.  eBay support and they said because it was "defective" I would be responsible for he buyer's shipping due to the Ebay guarantee. They said I could appeal it.

Regarding Fed Ex, I have had shipping refunded by them in the past when they damaged a shipment, but this was not an eBay label.  Fed Ex support told me because they have a contract with eBay when you ship with Ebay labels, Fed Ex is not responsible, even if it is damaged.
