Any Luck with a Manual Correction (Refund) Request?

Issues

  1. eBay withdrew $437.53 from my checking account to refund the buyer, who never returned the item. This was a local delivery, and eBay says I needed a shipping label to handle the return.
  2. The buyer tried to cancel the refund/return request, because he had already repaired the bike. But there was no option to cancel once initiated. He even called eBay to try to cancel, but they wouldn't.
  3. The buyer has the item (bike) for FREE now!

What I've Done

I've called eBay about a dozen times to ask for my payment, but have noticed the following recurring tactics EVERY time:

  • They politely acknowledge my issue and agree with me.  They indicate that I will receive a manual correction within 7 to 10 days.
  • They promise to message me a summary of the case, but I never receive any acknowledgement.
  • Instead, I request and they give me a service request number (likely just a call contact number).
  • When I reference the SR number, they state that only the agent that handled the request can reply. They have never replied so far, so I have to call back in 10 days.
  • I've talked to an agent in the Payment team, Returns team, and Escalations team. None of these teams have helped.
  • I've already appealed the decision, and they say that since it's passed 90 days, nothing can be done.
  • I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, awaiting a reply from eBay.

I took basic business law back in high school, and this seems like a simple case. But, do I want to waste even more of my time going to a small claims court and paying my attorney?

Any help is appreciated!

@radbradid As a fellow seller I am sorry that this happened.    There is no way for eBay to reverse a refund.

I would contact the buyer and ask for repayment.   I would offer a discount to encourage them to pay you back since part of your money is better than none.

#1 You will need to ask the buyer for their email address to send them a PayPal invoice

#2 You can share your PayPal email and they can send the money as friends and family

OR they can Venmo you the payment.  This is NOT consider an offsite sale since the transaction already took place.

#3 They can snail mail you a check
