So I have been with eBay since 2011. Recently sold couple of small items from my closet.
Just sold Chanel bag and still waiting for
My funds. eBay decided to verify my account and hold my money pending verification of my account after the bag was sold but the money was still with eBay. They asked for my ID which was provided.
I find it odd that they waited for me to sell a large ticket item to ask for account verification. They took their fees but are holding my money.
The customer service people keep
telling me it will take three to five business days, just to wait a little longer.
is any of this legal?
it smells like fraud to me? Anyone had similar experiences?

All new sellers and sellers returning after not selling for a long time need to go through the verification process, and YES, it is legal.

I am not a new seller. Have been selling since 2011.

According to your feedback profile, you have only had 2 sales this year, so Ebay would consider that as an infrequent seller.
PER EBAY: New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 14 days, although sometimes it may be longer.

I have had 5 sales this year as most people don’t leave feedback. In addition I have bought items through eBay.
