I have this very fancy metal box - think they were women's "dresser boxes"? I believe this particular box may have originally been painted white but is now down to the metal which looks a lot like copper although I'm not sure it is. I think it looks good though. I was just interested in how old it might be and where it might have been made.... It has a very distinct pattern across the bottom and under one leg has the number 979; under another leg, the initials J B. Hopefully clues to who made it & when. The box is approximately 4 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches tall. Interior (not shown) is just metal; no lining or anything.
Any information about it greatly appreciated. THANKS

A similar J.B. mark has been attributed to Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Company active 1890-1953.
