This tool belonged to my grandfather. It was found with a couple of hog ring pliers. (Don't know if it is associated with the hog ring pliers)
I have exhausted all normal ways to identify this piece--(asked farmers--looked in antique farming books--internet research--ect.)
Any assistance in this matter is appreciated.

I really don't know for sure, but it looks like a hole punching tool of some sort. Maybe to punch a hole in a hogs ear? Or a hold punch for say a leather belt, or saddle work? Hopefully, someone that knows for sure will respond. Good luck!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Your "guess" certainly gives me a new avenue to investigate.
Again, thank you.

I have absolutely driven myself crazy--trying to identify this thing. I cleaned it up a little more and found on one side--"PAT OCT 3 83". Has to be 1883. Way too old to be 1983. I will keep trying to ID this thing and will post what it is--when and if--I find out.

Found It!!!!!!! After days of searching I finally found it! I found a patent date--which I thought was Oct 3, 1883--Turned out it was Oct 9, 1883. I searched the "US Patent Records" and I found it--(See Attached Pictures).
Again, thank you for responding to my question.
