eBay responds to delay issues

This was the response I received regarding long delays in listings appearing: "Dear Kathleen, Thank you for writing eBay in regard to listing items on eBay. "Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email. I understand your concern over the delay in your listings appearing in the category and search results. Please understand that your listing period starts from the time that you submit your listing on eBay. However, your item may not come up in your searches, because our system may still indexing it for inclusion in the Search database. We run several indexing cycles for Search on a daily basis. However, it can take several hours to fully index the information that we receive, because our Search system tracks a lot of information for every listing on eBay. The listing information includes titles, descriptions, the auction start and end times, the seller, the bidders, and the bids. If you revise your listing shortly after submitting it, it may take even more time to index the information. It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay. "

Mine was a little more detailed telling me how to search on 'item number'. I told them that I knew how to do that, would they please tell my buyers. The whole thing is, this didn't happen before. I don't know if it's a deliberate thing to make us pay for scheduled listings. I don't like this situation at all. ~Jillian

I got a survey to rate the response to my query. No doubt they will find my answers 'interesting' 😉

I've also been getting the longer reply with instructions on how I can locate my own item. Hey, thanks for the help, guys. I've complained about five times now and am pretty well sick of getting this same reply. In my last complaint I said to them "and PLEASE don't send me the same canned reply about the indexing cycle." Hey, guess what I got? X-( I may sound paranoid, but I think it may be deliberate too. Someone on the community board thread said that they wouldn't be surprised to see ebay introduce a new fee for an "immediate listing." Sadly, I wouldn't be at all shocked if that happened.

Scheduling a listing does not help. It can still take up to 6 hours or longer to index the item. I know this from experience. Nothing helps at this time and I have submitted up to 3 surveys with my complaints about this issue. Julia

I have used the old listing form for all my auctions. Indexing taking up to 6 hours. Revisions on existing auctions take up to 6 hours and are removed from the search for this amount of time. Julia

Us being able to find it through the item number or see it on our page or store is not helpful for the buyers. They need to see it asap. They could easily set up the software to start the clock when it finally shows up on keyword search etc. I haven't been selling long, nov/06 and I checked everything listing through keyword, etc. to see how the photo looked, and I never had a delay more than an hour or so. So I opened a store expecting the same service I received in nov/06, and it was good most times until MAR and now APRIL. I think we have to make our thoughts known, between paypal and ebay fees they are plenty high right now! Just give us the same service we were getting before for them.

I sent a complaint also. I got the stock reply that things index blah, blah blah. So I sent a reply saying I know ebay & I can find my listings how they are telling us to do it. I said the problem is the BUYERS finding the listings. I suggested they go back to the consulting company that sold them the new program & either get them to iron out the problems or get their money back (and my husband is a consultant lol). I just got a real snarky reply saying that ebay welcomes suggestions from users and if I would like to send my suggestions they would be more than happy to forward to the appropriate departments. I thought what the ??? I just SENT you my suggestion. Oh well... Sue

Just checking on scheduling. How long ahead of wanting it listed are you requesting it to be listed? 24 hours? Also, are you using the old form or new one? I, too, have been telling them to tell my customers how to search, not me.

This was normal in the early days of ebay but it hasn't been this way in years. Seems they're going backwards. I just listed a couple a few hours ago and they still haven't shown up.
