There are some counted cross stitch patterns being listed that are known to be an artist's work who has not given her permission to be used in this manner. Maybe everyone should check to see if yours or someone you know has their paintings being used too.

Which bring us back to the first square. What IS the most effective way to deal with someone like this when it's YOUR work that she has stolen? Would placing watermarked artist names over all our peices prevent this? Isn't there a watermarking that can be done to listing picture in the listing process? If so, how do you do that? Thinking PREVENTION.

Photos and scans of my images on the internet, whether on eBay or anywhere else, are 72 dpi, the lowest resolution supported by the web. If someone prints it, it will be very blurry and pixelated. I generally put a copyright symbol and at least my initials. Yes, anyone with a decent knowledge of a rendering programme can get around this second one with a bit of elbow grease. But at least you've made it more difficult for them. Other than that... specifically what to do? Different people have different strategies. Some will try to get eBay to remove an offending listing. Legal action is generally prohibitively expensive, unless you want to do it on principle. Companies such as Disney have deep pockets and will prosecute, most of us little people can't/won't/don't have those means. You can send a thief a nastygram but expect them to ignore it, because these people have a totally different set of values and don't see what the big deal is.

One artist filed 33 Veroes against her. So wait and see. Other artists gave permission, but some time back, where they thought they'd expired and really have no way of knowing what she's selling and when. She is illegally using website links in her listings, so she can get bought down for that alone. The artists who gave permission did it to spread the word about them, but I'm not so sure she's doing what they expect of her. I don't think those who agreed have anything in writing, and I'm sure they would have no way of being sure of what she sold, and what she didn't???? -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Thanks to TinEye found this Australian artist for this work. It's not named the same as her award-winning painting, let alone being named the same. So I'm sure she doesn't know. http://cgi.ebay.com/CAUGHT-EM-CUTE-HORSE-CROSS-STITCH-PATTERN-/330362726713?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&ha... -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Well, if 33 VeROs don't get her blacklisted, nothing will. I have, in past younger years, had partners that were not artists, that were suppose to do the promotional sales end of things then profits split. NEVER EVER worked out well for me. ALWAYS taken advantage of. There is NO way of telling what is being sold. For that reason, I'd rather go it alone. Learned some hard lessons. What non-artists don't realize is that, even WITHUOT a signature, we can recognize the artist who did it. The s tyle of the art itself IS a signature which identifies the artist. So, they can cut off all the signatures they want and the art can still be as identified as if it were printed across the entire painting. I'm rooting for the person going for the VeROs!!! Lynne

About WATERMARKING art listing photo. GO to Community>Answer Center>then put in WATERMARK, and you can find instructions for placing watermark using ebayid on uploading listing photo. Everyone has become trusting in NOT using one, in light of the rampant art theft, I think we should all seriously take this option. I have not tried it yet, so cannot attest to how easy it may or may not work. Lynne

In one listing she says thank you to one artist for giving her SOUL right to using her images. *lol* Sold out to the devil - he demanded her soul? -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

I watermark EVERYTHING. Even photos that I post on my blog, twitter, wherever . . . it's ALL watermarked. People will steal an image any place they see one, not just on eBay. Also, as Karen said, never post anything online in resolution higher than 72dpi. I use Photoshop for my watermarks, but for those who can't afford Photoshop, there is a free program called GIMP that will do many of the same things that Photoshop does. You can download it here: http://www.gimp.org/ -- Kathy "You know you're putting a good thing out into the universe when you put on glitter." ~ Drew Barrymore

Could be this painting copied belongs to someone with deep pockets. I think it is an Orren Mixer and all his work is in private collections and brings big bucks when sold. I would think buying the rights to copy a well known artists work would cost a very large amount. AQHA may also be involved with this painting and the other that looks very similar, another wealthy enterprise. http://cgi.ebay.com/QUARTER-HORSES-BUCKSKIN-COUNTED-CROSS-STITCH-PATTERN-/330433343290?pt=LH_Default... -- Edited by crookedstempipe at 12/03/2010 3:25 PM PST

You have to figure, that if she is sent multiple messages that she will be VeRO and possibly lead to NARU for the continued use of copyrighted artwork which can close down her ebay site, wouldn't she pull all those that she knows she has NOT permission to use. To be also told that owners of that artwork have been contacted and given the information to find her ebay site, that might spook her into it and monitor what she is using knowing she is being watched, but not really by whom. Something to the effect of all listings are being reviewed with violations reported. Lynne

Sheesh! No wonder she does it. 212 items ended yesterday. Most of them are sold. She reduced the prices, and was having a sale. Hummmmmm... I wonder if we all need to find the program to convert images to cross stitch patterns? -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

What, and steal her images? I have a difficult time reproducing my OWN images.LOL It's a poop! I suppose it's easy to slash prices on something you have no work into. With the cross-stich program she probably has, it need not be even made into aproduct of sorts, that is usually sent via net, until it is sold. Most likely, it doesn't even exsist in any real form, until then. She apparently, did strike on a money making idea. Only problem with those kind of money makers is that most of the time it includes an illegal, underhanded way of doing it. In this case, employing the talents of others without their permission to do so and paying them nothing. It's ART THEFT. Lynne

She also sells multiples of each of those patterns. Judging from feedback, she sometimes even sends it as a file via email. She is effectively selling air. Someone else's air.
