WIP: Altered Book Project #1

I approach my art mostly seriously, with an goal in mind and a standard that I strive for. Silly me! But that is how it is ... so there are times I do things for 'fun', and altered books as well as other arts and crafts are what do it for me! Years ago I taught various crafts which included 'memory books' which were altered books, but usually only few pages were altered so that it was more a display item. I've also done some scrapbooking/rubber stamp and many paper projects since then, too, as well as teaching. This past weekend I took the time to join in with an altered book project and thought I'd show you some of what I did there. It is a book that has been cut into a ♥ (heart) shape (when opened). I still have much to do on it. Hope you enjoy this... ~Jillian

Beautiful and obviously labor-intensive! That looks like a project that I can't even attempt 'til the boys are in college! (4 more years... 4 more years...)

Very nice Jillian--I LOVE the shape! Any more pics? I have been working on one for months, haven't picked it up in a while though to do more work, I am kind of stumped and need more ephemera--anyone have suggestions?

There's gonna be a BIG fine when you take that book back to the library. I speak from experience. Mick

It's OK. I'm going to put it in the library drop box, and changing my name, my address, my phone number and getting a face lift.

Yes, I definitely will. There is just SO much to this, this is only a small portion, and ALL of it is 'unfinished'. I have only finished one full spread so far, and that is the front page to the beaded page. I tore out about 40 book pages, But have about 20 or more still to even start on. I wish you could all see it as it is so different to how the photos show.

Hey, I tried all that identity changing stuff...I even grew a mustache and came back as my evil twin...didn't work. I've decided to just keep the book for twenty years hoping for one of those library fine amnesty deals. Mick

Well all this talk about the book today, made me want to show you some more. I didn't do any today, though felt like it. But just didn't get around to it. This 'spread' is almost finished. It has 3 dimensional paint swirls mixed in with stamped images, and collage Victorian images. I might put some more details in towards the spine - though it doesn't look as 'bare' as this photo shows. I still have to finish off the beading by adding a 'tail' - of beads, feathers and decorative yarns.
