I love art supply shopping!:D Pens: My favorite pen is Pigma MICRON. I use size "005" for fine lines. The ink dries super fast so it will not smear. Another good pen is Staedtler Pigment Liner but it does not dry as fast as the Micron does. I have these in various tip sizes, "0.1" is the smallest. Pencils: Caran d'Ache watersoluble pencils are some of my favorite things:D You can use them wet or dry and create a lot of cool effects. If you want regular colored pencils I recommend Prismacolor. Remember when you search on prismacolor to take out the 'u', or you might search on both on ebay .au. You might even find some ACEO supplies on there. If you have any fairly stiff papers - you should be able to get papers 70 pounds or more, or even matt (mount) board, you can cut to size - use a 'guilotine' style paper cutter - search on 'paper cutter'. In Au I prefer 'DR Pilot' waterproof pens. They are a few dollars each. Don't be mixed up with other Pilot pens. The DR is dark blue with DR in yellow reverse writing. I drew over 9,000 houses, plus more, using these, and they never ever ever let me down. Far superior. '03' size. Can also recommend 01 & 05. But definitely 03. I used to get these from Premier art supplies in Adelaide. I am sure they still stock them and they have a web site. Eckersley's also have them. Because Prismacolor pencils are imported to Au, be careful. I bought a set of 120 for what I considered a 'fortune' - and the box had obviously been dropped and the 'leads' were shattered inside. I couldn't sharpen them to any good points. I had had them 6 months before opening them, so could not return them. :( ~Jillian

Hi waddy! Can I make a suggestion that works for me? I agree with not wanting to use the blanks just for having fun with or trial and error. What I do is take a piece of copy paper(computer paper), mark out my aceo blocks with a ruler and pencil (you will get 9, I believe), and practice on these. It will help you to get a feel for working in that size without the cost or waste of the blanks - if you don't like the way your picture first comes out, move on to the next space. VERY cost effecient. :) Jenn

for stiffer stuff to practice on -actually probably do finished work on, too - I cut up boxes such as cereal boxes, etc., even corrugated cardboard if I need super stiff and the corr. is so lightweight. TOO MUCH FUN !!!!

Oh! should I be using a special card for ACEOs? I've been using art paper and cutting it to size. No-one's complained yet. Jean

You're fine Jean. No 'special' card. Just needs to be 2.5x3.5" ONLY

When Hobby Lobby has it's 1/2 of on paper, it's a good time to stock up. Michael's also has 40% of coupons, for one item, on Sundays. That's when I bye my Prismacolors, they can be pretty costly. Check it out if you have these stores close by. Hope you have tons of fun making art, Krista

Jean, no special paper or cardstock necessary. I just use those things because I sometimes go heavy on paint or decoupaging/3d stuff, etc. I've even used wood cut to size.
