Non-ACEO Listings - Sept 2009

A 4" x 4" pencil drawing of Waffle - a 10-week old greyhound pup. I took reference photos of him and his litter mates years ago. Note cards too -- -Ann "Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time."

Ann, he is amazing, his expression looks like he's weighing his activity options...poop? Or eat? Or bite my sister on her butt? Really fantastic work! ~Elizabeth

Deb, that's a beautiful drawing! Drafting film...does that give you a smoother finish for colored pencils? Very cool...

Puppies are so active, Elizabeth, I think he probably could've done all three at once!! ;-D Deb - love the vibrant colors on your drawing (and the happy face on the dog)! I've never tried drafting film, but have read about it - nice effect. -- -Ann "Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time."

By drafting film, do you something like Duralene? Don't know about paint, but it takes ink beautifully. -- Kathy "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel."

I googled color pencil on drafting film and came across Karen Hull's site. I'd seen her beautiful work before but forgot she works on drafting film. Here's a tutorial page: http://www.miniatureartbykhull.com/tutorial_19.html -- -Ann "Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time."

Dang, she's GOOD. It sounds like she's using a Duralene type product. I used to use that for pen-and-ink work (with Rapidographs). One of the nice things about it is that it's transparent, so as she mentioned, transferring the image is easy. I don't think you could use any kind of paint on it. Watercolor wouldn't be absorbed, and acrylic would chip off once dry. But colored pencils and ink, for sure. -- Kathy "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel."
