Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Hi... I'm carolynn and appreciate the invitation from Jillian to join this group.... i have recently discovered ACEOs and think they are quite a lot of fun! I have just started listing, but i have been fortunate enough to sell some of my first attempts. So far, they are all whimsical, fantasy, snowmen, which is an extention from my tole painting days. I've moved on from acrylics since discovering watercolors. I love painting realism as well, and focus on raptors, sea creatures, botanicals. So, that's all boring news! ( = I'm very happy to be here! It will be great meeting you all!

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Hi, everybody! I'm sorry for my question in this topic but I'm not sure which one is better for it. What do you think about copy your own ACEO ? I saw one person who mades two cards simultaneity so they are both original. Is this correct? Do you have to write about it on the back side of these cards? And what about your own copy of your own card, is it acceptable? Thank you in advance. -- Edited by larissa5331 at 10/19/2007 8:44 PM

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

It depends what this person did. Was it an exact copy, same medium, same colors? No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't copy my own work - I wouldn't want to, anyway - boring! I hate to suggest it, but also there are those that are frauds, passing off prints as 'original' art - sometimes embellishing them, by adding pencil, varnishing or sealing them. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider N/A - ask me!

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Yes, I agree with you. Also agree that to made copy of your own art it will be not the same exactly. But rare I have some passion of drawing(especially eyes) and it's my great pleasure to repeat it. Your note about media and color is very interesting idea. I would like to try it maybe sometimes it's interesting too. Also about made two artwork simultaneity. I was worked in one company of oil miniature and there was many different big orders for the same design so every artist had to do 3 or 5 artwork together. This way is more easy than made copy after time. Because you have passion and pleasure to do it first time. You give your energies, your interest and inspiration fully only first time. For copy(second time) you have to put energy too and for this if you don't have it - nothig to put. imho.

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Yes, I can't do it. I know of one artist offering the same image over and over again. I nearly bought one about 2 years ago, and was startled when I got a 'second chance' offer almost straight away when I was overbid, at what I had considered a low price for an 'original'. I checked back on feedback, and the same image (as well as others) had been sold, and resold. I know the amount of work put into original art and the price was just too low for me to even think that these could be anything other than prints, despite the listings saying otherwise. This artist saying that they often did the same 'popular' works again. 20+ times???? You're right. I just couldn't even copy one time, let alone more, and not for a few dollars, but maybe for a million HAHAHAHHA! -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider N/A - ask me!

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Jillian I think I know which artist you are talking about and I almost bought one from the same artist and got a second chance and did the same as you checked feedback and the thing that bothers me about it is they are advertising as original but being prints and the feedback at least last time I checked is mostly positive. That is curious I have never given negative feedback but I think if I had won that and gotten a print I might have given negative even though the price was not that high it still is not right -- Darlene

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Hi I'm Angie. I am a painter/mixed media artist and started making ACEOs around a year ago, have also just started to collect a few for myself (it's addictive!) I used to list quite a lot on ebay, but am only doing so occasionally at the moment due to other commitments. Thanks for the invitation to join the group - looking forward to getting to know you all and looking at all the wonderful new art!

Re New people - please introduce yourselves ...

Darlene, Yes, you probably do know. I'm not trying to point fingers. But we do need to be aware. What I hate, is when prints are passed off as originals. Even if they are manipulated or 'embellished' prints. At any one time there are several 'artists' doing this. I usually can name them. At one stage one person was getting quite high prices, until people started leaving appropriate feedback. I've seen people leave positive feedback, but the comment was negative. Unfortunately, unless you really read all feedback, you don't realise that the artist is a fraud. I can name at least 4 currently listing. *sigh* -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider N/A - ask me! -- Edited by artistjillian at 10/21/2007 6:37 AM
