Need some free advice

Hi, I have a couple issues I need some advice on. First, What type of material would you all suggest for a ACEO that is done with oil paints? I would think watercolor paper would be to flimsy. Second, What do you all think the best time of day and the week to put your items up for auction? Thanks for any reply, roadmaster6767

I would say the texture of the paper is as important as the weight. 140-300 lb water color papers will work, but you generally don't want to use oil on unprimed paper. I've seen oil aceos on almost every imaginable surface. I haven't found the answer to the second question.

Hi, don't know on the first question as I paint in acrylics but the second I think I can help. Best close times I have found are 11:00am central - 10:00pm...but no where near dinner time though (like 4:00pm central - 6:00pm). Items I've found also do worse on the weekends because people buy when at work during the week (one big buyer I know has no computer at home). Plus on the weekends they are out doing other things and not at the computer...not everyone I no though but most seem to be not on. So weekdays (though generally not Friday for some reason either) Mon-Thurs 11:00am central - 3:30pm and 7:00pm - 10:30pm or so seems to be the BEST time I've observed for most bids and traffic. Good Luck. Jamie

I would suggest trying gessoed masonite for your surface. There is an ACEO supplier on EBay that I buy from and she has a wide selection of blanks to try: look into the Artist Multisurface board, that she sells. It is sturdy, and will not need to be primed with Gesso, but you could, and use oils. Her store is : rurallj I'll try to add a link: (click) Oh, and I am currently trying to list midweek, with a 7 day auction, to get the weekday and the weekend shoppers/browsers. Hope this helps. The shop has a wide (and I mean wide) variety of blanks--affordable too--so you can try many surfaces; even leather aceo blanks! I use 'canva-paper' a canson product. But I've only done about 3 oil ACEOs. Loved doing them but take too long to dry and I stress about mailing them as don't want the surface in contact with anything. Can't varnish until 6 months, and I can't wait that long to list. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

I've used the Canson "canva paper" with acrylics and just love it. I don't use oils myself, but as a collector, have purchased two ACEOs that are oil. One is on canvas, and one on masonite board. Both are beautiful, but there is a downside to the masonite board. It's too thick to fit in an album, and many people who collect a lot of ACEOs keep them in albums. I bought an easel to display that one because it wouldn't fit in a sleeve or in an album. Something to consider when you choose your surface. -- Kathy

So I guess those new ACEO sized stretched canvases from Dick Blick might not be a good idea?? They REALLY wouldn't fit in an album -- LOL. BTW, they are sort of pricey. -- Photobucket

I haven't seen those. Are they actual wrapped canvases? I'll have to head over to the Blick site and take a look. Great idea, but yeah, you would have to get an easel for it, or have it framed. -- Kathy

Yep, actual wrapped canvases. I think they are called mini-canvas. I heard about them from Gail (carpiss), I think. It took a while to find them -- that is ONE big STORE!!!!! -- Photobucket

I found them! They're nice, but you do need an easel. -- Kathy

That looks out of proportion for ACEO size. A local store here had mini wrapped canvases. 2x2 and 3x3. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Oh and by the way I have not painted on the ACEO size yet but I did a pastel on one of the squares and the canvas is really nice. Darlene

That picture is of the square size. They had them for sale in ACEO size as well, but that's the photo they had up. -- Kathy
