The ONLY bid that counts is the very last one, just as the auction ends.

Sniping became a favorite past time. And we all have our own bragging rights My best snipe was 2 seconds left on the clock.
Anyway, it's been around for quite a while and Ebay won't change it.
As a seller, my best bids come in the last 5 - 10 minutes of the auction. If people want to snipe my items, why should I complain? It's a win / win situation for both the seller as well as the buyer. They get their item and I normally get a decent sale price on the item.

cracks me up when someone arrives 12 years late to the party and proceeds immediately to complain and offer suggestions about the decorations .
Geesh, at least Bryce was timely..
chris..don't get hung up on the auction format..eBay has shifted emphasis to 'fixed price' listings because they cost eBay less to process, store and maintain.
Only people who sell old or used goods and don't know the market value use auctions and the number of buyers have dwindled that you're lucky to get one bid..regardless of when it's placed.

Seems like snipers are wanting to get items for as close to nothing as possible

In short, the practice of sniping remains to be a corruption of the concept of auctioning for anyone who is accustomed to real-life auctions

I truly believe that the "professional snipers" do not really want the item for themselves. They just want to frustrate the other bidders and win it with the hope of reselling the item at a profit. It's a bully tactic and over the long term results in overall lower bid activity.
