Yes I almost cant give anything away. Maybe because ebay is old and noone really uses it anymore or cheap china seller?
Not sure...

Yes they all want something for nothing. eBay is not helping when they continually recommend lowering the price. Eventually it's a losing proposition.

Hi there, gordo, and welcome to the Part Time eBay Sellers Group Home!
The OP (opening poster) of this thread posted in 2015 and guess what? ...he is still selling. If you would like help with selling strategies, just let us know and always remember that your profit is made when you "buy" your item, not when you sell.

So true. I sell only really nice things because I am actually getting rid of my favourite things simply because I am too old or don't go out to wear the jewellery etc. things I am selling. Most of my stuff is used once only and yet even though I keenly price things, people seem to want something for nothing. Getting fed up with cheap ebay buyers and refuse to lower my prices again and again - I'd rather give it away.
For example, currently selling a bookcase which looks brand new and is in tip top condition cost $1200 at Harvey Normal only asking $140 but no takers. It's a quality item that I would pay much more for but people want it for nothing.

It would be wonderful if a liar's pants really were on fire!!! I've been running an eBay store for 10 years. We buy closeout items from a local vendor (primarily name brand wrestling and running shoes) and don't charge shipping, and do okay with those. The REAL issue is, eBay nixed its Restocking Fee option, which pretty much reimbursed us for our original shipping cost. AND NOW - in order to receive a 10% on final value fees AND to qualify as a Power Seller, we have to offer FREE - GOT IT? - FREE!! returns. Some fool buys a pair of running shoes (at least 7 photos are in the listing), then he/she opens a Return stating "I don't like the way they look". We pay return shipping and the idiot gets a full refund!!! SERIOUSLY, EBAY??????? Seems to me like you're TRYING to force sellers out.

It is as simple as changing your return policy to buyers pay return shipping for issues other than SNAD however you want to word it. No one is forced to give free returns for everything. We all makes choices to do that or not.
Ebay also allows you to make partial refunds and to even refund 50% in some cases.
You can read up on all this in the help pages for returns and how to set it up.

@shopcokoshari wrote:I'm with you. I had one item listed with $100 already off and "bidders" were still trying to haggle the price down lower. Um, I'd like to sell the items, not give them away. If that's the case, why pay to give them away?
I too remember years ago (sure, things change) I could list the most useless item in my book and it would get multiple bids. Ebay has certainly changed. Luckily, there are various platforms and other options. I don't think anyone has come here to vent, grip, or moan about it (contrary to many of the surprising responses). It's an obvious observation to come back to after years of being an Ebay consumer.
To those suggesting Amazon, there's a catch, so be prepared. It's all work. I've sold many items on Amazon, but they have a plethora of catergories you can't enter into to sell your items.
Things have changed over the years as have buyers their wants etc. Todays buyers are not the same as those 10 yrs ago. They do not all want the same things as buyer in the past and they do not pay the same as buyers in the past. Buyers no longer have to. There is more competition and market prices have dropped on a lot of things. EBay has also changed. Nothing is the same as it used to be. This is the natural progession of things and of times. We did not buy or want the same thing our parents did either. Things are always changing.

@everything-from-trinkets-to-treasures
A seller that offers returns with buyer pays for return can only refund up to 20% if an item is returned used or damaged,
If you don't offer free returns, you can deduct 10% or 20% (not 50%) of the refund amount in situations where the item is returned for remorse reasons and is used or damaged.
This only applies to sales in the following categories:
Business & Industrial
Parts & Accessories
Collectibles & Art
Cameras & Photo
Medical
Mobility & Disability Equipment to decide
Home Improvement
Furniture
Musical Instruments & Gear
Yard, Garden & Outdoor
A buyer can appeal the partial and eBay will not always have the sellers back if they do not offer free returns.
If eBay gets involved you will get a defect if the return case is found in buyer favor.
If you set your returns to Offer a partial refunds – You'll issue a partial refund to the buyer, and they'll keep the item.
This can be useful when the buyer isn't completely satisfied with their purchase.
For example, if an item arrived with a minor scratch – but the buyer is happy to keep it.
These partial refunds must be approved by the buyer or they can deny the partial and ask ebay to step in.
to send the offer: View return details beside the item.
Select Offer a partial refund and then Continue.
Enter the amount you wish to offer the buyer.
You can choose to add a message to the buyer.
Select Send offer.
You can only offer a partial refund once, and the buyer can choose to accept or reject your offer.
Feedback will not be automatically removed and a defect can be given if eBay steps in and finds in the buyers favor after they reject it.
ONLY...If you offer free returns in your listing, you'll have the option to issue a partial refund where the item is returned used or damaged.
A returned item has been opened, used, or damaged
When you offer free returns and accept the return:
You will have access to use the partial refund tool for items that come back used, damaged, or missing parts,
partial refunds can be up to 50% depending on the return received condition.
If the buyer leaves negative or neutral feedback for any reason or escalates an eBay Money Back Guarantee claim, eBay will automatically remove the feedback and protect you from impacts to your standards
If the buyer escalates, eBay will resolve the issue directly with the buyer, and you don't need to worry
Just needed to clear up partials because it's son confusing.:
"Ebay also allows you to make partial refunds and to even refund 50% in some cases."
50% is for free return only and can not be appealed. All other partials must be within limits and can be rejected and eBay can step in if requested by buyer.
Your welcome, have a great night

Here is a real reason for the returns, problems and low sales, it has nothing to do with buyers not buying the same products as years ago or buyers trying to scam you with returns.

You MUST bring this to eBay's attention
Go through all your listings, you may have to take out UPC for now until it gets fixed, I went through all your several of your listings up to the NEW MENS HOKA ONE ONE CLIFTON 3 RUNNING SHOES - 14/ EUR 49 1/3 - $150 AUTHENTIC in your store.
Look at your listing eBay item number: 132719444611
Look at the top of your listing and see "
|Listed in category: Clothing, Shoes & Accessories>Men's Shoes>Athletic Shoes>See more Hoka One One Bondi 4 Wide 2e Grey Running Shoe...
Click on the "See more Hoka One One Bondi 4 Wide 2e Grey Running Shoe..." link at the top in the ebay category listing in that listing.
It's going to open up to a product page that shows you are selling: Hoka One One Bondi 4 Wide 2e Grey Running Shoes Mens US 11/ EUR 45 1/3
You are the seller of this product page and if a buyer purchases from that page they will be thinking they are purchasing size US 11 and will have no clue at all that they are actually purchasing Size 14
So when you ship the wrong size, the buyer will see after the fact in purchase history the did purchase the 14 and then freak out and say what they have to say to get the US 11 you probably doen't even have from you.
Several of your items are being sold on product pages you didn't make with the wrong products..

Thank you but my post was directed to the poster and no one was confused and it was suggest to the OP to read about refunds by going to the help pages, which is the "best place" for them to read about all that information themselves and to decide for themselves what would be "best for them"...... using "ALL of the info ebay provides and options ebay provides" and not pieces of it copied and paste out of context, interpreted, or not in it's entirety.

Thanks for the research and tips, but when I look at my listings, whether I'm looking at Active Listings or doing a general eBay search for a specific item, I don't see whatever it is you're seeing.

This isn't a debate, you clearly put it out there that sellers can give up to a 50% partial refund in some cases without including those case are "only" if they offer free return shipping. While responding to @texastradingoutlet2009 who was upset about the free turns in the post you were responding to. No pieces of copied and paste out of context, interpreted, or not in it's entirety.
I'm not playing your usual insult before educating your self response game. The one that needs to read ALL of the 2018 update return policy page is you.
eBay streamlined the return policy May 2018 , Starting June 1, 2018 in order to do a partial refund up to 50% is only by offering free returns.
Read Up, here is the only return options now:
The five return policy options are:
Sellers choice is No refund or refund with buyer pays for any reason or free returns for any reason.
In some situations, you can issue a partial refund where you receive the item back used or damaged
https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/seller-updates/2018-spring/simplified-returns.html
Most SNAD returns are automated, with a choice of auto auth, replacement or refund without a return.
Partial refunds up to 50% are only allowed if seller offers Free return shipping. what part of that is pieces copied and paste out of context, interpreted, or not in it's entirety? If you are going to insult know what you are talking about before you do. Twisting your comebacks is old and tiring, enough already, learn from you past mistakes, get current and get over it.
