I was just about to buy some car parts on ebay and then noticed that the seller was using the Global shipping program. Shipping is more than first class international so I declined on buying the parts. Has anyone used the shipping program ? Does it do anything other than cost the buyer more money and cure me of impulse spending ?

lol yes much more informative over there I'm sure, I was more asking about this guy's experience in general ^^. I remember reading this thread a while back when I must have googled the exact same thing! (creature of habit) Anyway, I thought it was a cool coincidence to follow up on. More interested in how he went in his ebay gig than the actual shipping/store info but ty 🙂

Old thread, I know, but regarding using USPS First Class International instead of GSP . . . for those not familiar with FCI, be advised that it is NOT insured. So, as has been suggested here, use it only for lower priced items (presumably $50 or less, I suppose). Otherwise, in the event of an issue - such as what happened to me - you will be sh*t out of luck from both eBay and PayPal.
I sent a $250 item via FCI from Houston, TX to UK (which I had done successfully on a few prior occasions). The package made it to the Chicago distribution center (perhaps even through customs, I can't remember now) and basically disappeared - no further status updates and no help from USPS tracking it down at the facility. And because the status never updated/chaged from "In Transit" - despite 12+ weeks elapsed time and numerous requests from me to USPS to get it changed - eBay nor PayPal would act on it. Of course the buyer (at least) claims they never received the package, so I had to reimburse them WITHOUT EVER getting the item back.
(I didn't even recover the $50 that is insured under FCI because USPS couldn't guarantee/confirm that the package wouldn't eventually make it to it's destination! Un-freaking-believable!)
LESSON LEARNED.
I will now only ship international via insured methods (i.e. USPS Priority International), which is very pricey -- or -- if the buyer balks at that expense, I will do the transaction outside of eBay via PayPal "Friends & Family" to put the risk on the buyers. I've done the F&F method a few times now without any issues.

I just purchased two items from two different sellers in the UK. Both packages came badly damaged and retaped. The first time this happened, I assumed the package was damaged in the mail and was worried the item was damaged. It doesn't appear to have been. However, it was worrisome.
Then I received the second package in the same condition! So, I started Googling to find out what was going on. Now, I know it's this Global Shipping Program. As a buyer, I do... not... like... it and will ask sellers if they use it before I purchase it again.
This may seem odd to the reader, however, both items were undergarments and the idea that my undergarments were opened and inspected by someone *really* bothers me. It feels like a violation of my personal privacy.
A seller may think this is a great program to protect them, however, after reading the comments on this thread as well as my experience, in the long run I believe it will cost them business.

I used it in the past. Once I sold an old book, cookbook I think, to Canada. I got a surprise, they were adding on customs duties. There are no custom duties on old books.
