As part of our continuing effort to ensure timely payments for our sellers, we'll be testing changes over the next few months that are designed to streamline your selling experience, ensure you get paid without delay, and minimize the hassle of re-listing.
Buyers on select auctions will be required to set up a preferred payment method and shipping address before they can place a bid. After winning an auction, we’ll let them know they have one hour to adjust their order or payment details as needed, otherwise we’ll automatically process their order using their preferred payment method. No action is required from the seller.
These changes aim to improve the auction process on eBay by providing buyers with the ability to decide how they want to pay, while also ensuring that sellers receive payment for their sales. The goal is to foster a more efficient and dependable experience for the entire eBay community.
Keep an eye out for these improvements which we’ve already begun rolling out.
Please ensure that all questions and comments remain on topic. Any off topic posts will be moved to the appropriate board, so they can be answered by Community Members.

What "SELECT AUCTIONS" will be included in this area?
Certain categories?
Items over a certain dollar amount?
High-ticket items?

Is this auction change only for USA sellers?
Is eBay working on solutions for other sellers in other countries like Canada?
The new offer system for example where buyers either pay now or where the listing stays listed until actually paid for?
Thanks!

Hi @renegade-chance! As of now we are testing in different categories and stay tuned more information and improvements roll out!

1. I assume from this
they have one hour to adjust their order or payment details as needed,
Buyers will not be able to cancel their purchase?
2. Will sellers be able to opt OUT of this "immediate payment" version?
3. This is unclear:
Keep an eye out for these improvements which we’ve already begun rolling out.
Info is announced as a test.....for "select auctions".....which is undefined......
So what are you rolling out? the ultimate goal is obviously improvement in the payment process, but if these are only tests which have been on going for years (it seems like)......what improvements are rolling out and being applied to everyone?
Thanks for clarity........

Hi @dhbookds! Sellers that are rolled into the testing do have the option to require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid. If a seller does not want this as a requirement, they can opt out through their "Buyer Rules" settings.

Is this exclusive to auctions? The reason I'm asking is that 1 hr window would be very helpful for offers when the buyer wants to utilize different payment methods not currently available through the auto-pay options.
For example, if I want to split a purchase between a gift card and cover the balance with my credit card, I currently can't do that as the system is requiring payment method before submitting an offer.

Second question: What will happen if my chosen payment method is rejected because it's a gift card with a balance not high enough to cover the full transaction value?
Will my offer still go through and give me the option to choose a new payment method after the original fails?

As a general comment on the tests.......... We, sellers, would really appreciate NOTICE in announcements or on the Selling board when these tests occur..... We often are totally confused on "changes" as to whether they are tests or glitches and it can take days, if ever, to get answers from ebay. When changes involve buyers, as this one does, we get questions on stuff that we don't have a clue about.
I'm guessing the criteria for notifying sellers of change/tests is whether they have to do anything...and, if they don't, notification isn't done. This can really put sellers in a bind and create alot of angst.....because they need to know what's going to from both their standpoint and the buyer's....... I urge consideration to being more proactive where information is concerned...... We are your partners, as we are so often reminded, and need to know and understand what's being done on the site.

Hi @wastingtime101! This particular testing is specific to auctions. And that you for your feedback!

I think having a buyer set up a preferred payment method in order to bid in an auction is a great idea. Hopefully, this will be implemented in the model/toy train categories. I had two non-paying bidders and several who were slow and had to be prodded to pay. Doing this would eliminate these issues.

I just noticed this in my buyer requirements and opted out of it. I like to offer people a week to purchase multiple items and then combine them. It will reduce my sales if I have to make people pay as they go.
