Based on what I see in the Spring update, eBay is changing policies and fee structure, promoting more stores and buy it now sales. At the same time, they are punishing those of us who sell in the auction format by increasing net fees and placing more restrictions on our listings.
Maybe it's time for eBay to get rid of auction sales altogether, eliminating any ties to its roots, and sell that portion of the business to a company that supports auction sellers the way eBay did in the formative years.
I've been a part time eBay seller since 1997 focusing on collectibles. I have seen my profit margin shrink and my fees increase to the point it's almost not worth continuing to list.
So how about it, eBay? Why not get rid of your auction business and focus on selling the cheap junkie products from China that seem to dominate the listings?

I lose money on auctions. No one does it any more. If you dont list a buy it now, you might as well give your items away for free after ebay fees and paypal and govt fees. Ebay hurts sellers over and over that is why the auctions are gone.. sellers have to raise prices because Ebay raises their prices and then nothing sells. Ebay need to change their policies corporate greed makes me sick nickle and diming the seller to death.

Obviously I missed something in the Update. Where does it say that FVFs on auctions will be higher than on BIN or GTC listings? What policy changed that only affected the auction format? What "restrictions" are they planning to place on Auction? All important questions as I obviously overlooked these, I hope you will take a moment and direct me to the right place in the announcement.

They will not drop auctions ,They make higher amount of FVF'S off of them. I use the Auctions for the rare items.

There is NO fee increase for sellers who run auctions and do not have a store.

Nothing of mine sells at auction and rarely get many views, unless it is something really unusual.
This may be true for you, but that doesn't make it true for other sellers.
I never get to utilize the free auctions that are offered with the various store levels as they are too restrictive on the categories that you can list in. There are lots of sellers in the same boat with me. Fashion and collectables are not the only categories. Ebay needs to widen that up or just make it generic IMHO.

Depends on what you are selling.
And if you've ever been to an auction, then you would know that is not even close to true.

Lol, one good thing about auctions is that I make a lot of $ buying them and reselling them for more as buy it nows!

Auctions don't seem to go anywhere anymore, do they? They seem to be a thing of the past.

True. I just wish we had the choice. I find myself at the end of each month putting 100 things on auction, and then just have to relist them again in a week.

Auctions in my collectibles niche seem to be doing just fine. I know I seem to be losing enough of them. Maybe they're not doing well in used shirts and car parts but that was never a good fit anyway.
