Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

so true, I wish I would hear a response from eBay on these questions. not much incentive to stay at eBay. I think they are trying yo get rid of us smaller sellers.

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

not really a legitimate answer. maybe someone only wants to sell a few things, or only sell occasionally, not really fair to force them to the same high standards of a larger seller.

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

So, in essence eBay's goal is to get the small seller store's to close down [and hopefully stay, just without a subscription...]. Which will only bring about more seller's abusing multiple accounts. Guarantee. [Don't shoot the messenger! I only have one account honest!].

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

ebay's goal is to help us sell more.  If we sell more, then they make more money.  If we stop selling, ebay makes less money.  I see no evidence that ebay wants us to stop selling.  I do see evidence that ebay wants us to provide better customer service so our customers come back and buy from us again.  That helps both us and ebay.  Everyone makes more money.

I could live with that as well. However, some of us small item/ time " " sellers struggle with hovering around 12%... May as well valet everything and call a quits...

That is a rash reaction to losing half of the TRS+ discount.  It is a bad business plan to depend on any type of discount to make a profit on anything you sell.  Discounts have never been guaranteed nor should they be used with calculating your product price and/or profit.  If you are doing this, you are long overdue to restructure how you figure out your pricing.

For small sellers such as yourself, what you will be losing in the TRS+ discount is minimal unless you have taken the bonus into account with your current pricing.  Time reprice your inventory.

For small sellers, the loss of half this discount will cost you about $6.15 per $1000 worth of sales if you have a store.  This can vary a little depending on the specifics of your account.  Store or no store, categories being used, etc.  But for ease I'll use this example.  This means that for every $5 you have in your selling price you need to increase it by a three cents to recover the loss of part of the current TRS+ discount.

This loss of discount is more costly to a larger sellers by far than a small seller.  But for us regular small sellers, it just isn't that costly.  We should be able to overcome this.  But if the loss of $6 or $7 dollars is that devastating for any seller, then they need to re-evaluate what they are selling or giving away because what they are selling stuff for is too low.   People hate change, that is natural.  But it is important to really understand the impact of any given policy on you as a seller, run the numbers and then make an informed decision on what your next step should be.   There is no right or wrong answer.  Just make sure  you really understated the issue at hand and then do what is best for you and your little business.

ebay is suggesting tht they are investing in my success.  How?  Thge message states as follows:

  • Final value fees for Store subscriptions will increase in some selling categories.
  • The Top Rated Plus final value fee discount will change from 20% to 10% on qualifying listings.

How does enhancing eBay's profits benefit me as a seller?

What has Ebay said in this Update that suggest that Ebay is encouraging sellers to close their stores?  What change supports this?  Are you saying that the FVF rate increase causes this reaction?

Yes if you are upset by the 0.15 % increase in FVF has upset many.  But if you close your store for this certainly you won't have to pay that 6.15% fee increase, instead you will pay 10% FVF.  Per $1000 of sales you can either pay 61.50 in FVFs or without a store $100 in FVFs.  So you'd pay the additional $38.50 in FVFs because you no longer wanted the store for whatever reason you have, but you won't be saving any money, it will come at a cost.  Where is the benefit to doing this?  What benefit is there to living out your subscription and then change to a month to month agreement?  How does this benefit anyone IF what you are saying is about the impact a store owner?

Having multiple account is not an "abuse" of the system.  Sometimes sellers don't want to use their selling account as their buying account too.  Some have an ID they strictly us as a posting ID.  Others have multiple selling accounts because they want to structure their business to have certain products they sell under one account and then other types of things under another account.  There is nothing wrong with that as long as they comply with the rules.

I'm not trying to "shoot the messenger".  I'm trying to inform the messenger.  Now I certainly may have missed something in the Seller Update and maybe there is something in the update that does directly leads a seller to think that closing a store or modifying their subscription is the right move.  Please take a moment and explain what is in the update that leads you to this conclusion.

I agree "Raising requirements, increasing fees, and lowering incentives". Way to go! What a slap in the face for TRS!

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

Both fees and feedback are unfair to sellers. Ebay does not realize that without sellers, they have no business at all. It does not matter if the shipping is free if you have no sellers left to sell anything. Ebay's business is dependant on having sellers selling quality merchandise and providing good service, but they do nothing but make it harder and harder for sellers to make money and their loyality is only to the buyers who are not always honest. As a seller you do not even have a true picture of who your seller is, as buyers cannot ever receive any feedback that is not positive. How is that right?

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

Top Rate Plus discounts going down, and fees going up. How does this help sellers like me? Seems like more of the same ridiculous messages I've received from eBay over the past 4 months. Those constant reminders of "what's trending" are aggravating. I sell what I sell (music collectible items), and I'm not helped by those meaningless trend reports.  Know what I want..?? I want the free-listing promotional offers I used to receive most every month. For 500 or 1,000 free listings within a window of a few days to post. It hasn't happened since December 2016 and it's been killing my eBay sales. I used to make over $1000 profit each month from my music item sales, now I'm lucky to make $200 profit each month. BRING BACK THE EBAY THAT EXISTED A YEAR OR TWO AGO. And stop pushing your **bleep** "great news for sellers!" themed messages.

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

I understand that it is half of 20%, The problem is that a 10% discount adds up to MORE fees than we are already paying. We pay a fee for this and a fee for that and then pay pal takes its cut, My fees last year were quite high, even though I have a store (another fee)... I basically make money for eBay, Paypal and the Post office, Only to turn around and have to Pay TAXES on the amount also... So Downsizing our discount by half is taking more money out of my pocket. so back to my original question, Where is our incentive to keep selling here?

Re: 2017 Spring Seller Update Reminder

Selling on ebay is becoming more and more frustrating to me as a small seller and forcing me to look at alternate avenues for selling online. How in the world is ebay 'investing in my success' when final value fees are increasing in some categories, Top Rated Plus final value fee discount dropping from 20% to 10%, AND store prices going up!!! No to mention, I've not received any 'free listing' promotions this year.
I don't give 2 hoots about all the marketing and even the branded shipping supply offers, as they are only another way for ebay to market, or cater to wholesale sellers. And the new shipping features, who cares. Those who have sold for years know what shipping costs are.
I'm thinking of doing away with my Top Rated Plus rating (and the measly 10% discount) and going back to 14 day returns. Another thing ebay forced us to ... 30 day returns on pre-owned items is ridiculous.
A very frustrated ebay seller!!!
