I am a top rated seller and I am going to refuse to change my 14 day return to 30 day return. I know I will be losing the discount but will I still be a power seller and will people be able to see the only reason I am not top rated is my return policy? It will be interesting to see if it makes that much difference and if it does how many sellers will quit. What are your thoughts?

I sell mostly used books and historic, theatre and sports memorabilia. I think it is ludicruous to extend the return period to 30 days for such items. Imagine, you can read the book and return it for a full refund! I am not aware of any book store that would permit returns after 30 days for either new or used books, records, CDs or memorabilia. So one can only question what Ebay's actual rationale is for adding such a requirement to retain the 20% final fee discount we enjoy for meeting the other customer friendly requirements for top rated plus.
HOPEFULLY, EBAY WILL RETHING THIS VERY STUPID AND HARMFUL POLICY CHANGE.

The new 30 day return policy is utter garbage. I called customer service to voice my displeasure. They told me they were trying to get on the same page as large retailers. I told her that there were alot of flaky buyers out there and this would hurt the seller more than it would the buyer. By the way why can't we leave negative feedback for buyers that don't pay? I was reluctant to change to the 14 day return policy but did it to keep my TRS status. I refuse to add the 30 day BS. The woman told me if enough sellers complained, they might consider a change.
SO COME ON SELLERS COMPLAIN LOUD AND CLEAR SO MAYBE WE CAN GET THE RETURN POLICY CHANGED BACK!

Prior to the 30 day return policy i was a TOP RATED SELLER PLUS....that seal is gone now due to the fact that i am not going along with the change to 30 day returns; IT'S ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS !!....I actually phoned them about 10 times yesterday because I was so LIVID !! AND I STILL AM !!!

What do you think that will accomplish, besides tying up customer support staff so they aren't available to fellow-sellers who actually need their help? This change was announced last September.

* * Wish eBay would remember that -->We are selling the items, NOT renting them.<-- This push for 30 day returns iwill prove to be a bad eBay management decision that will sadly cost eBay to lose lots of sellers.
The 30 day policy just seems like a very bad policy that will ensnarl sellers, buyers and eBay with much more work/costs for manhours, accounting nightmare etc.

The new 30 day return policy is something that always existed anyway with ebay granting 30 days even before this change. Anybody not satisfied, renter, scammer etc etc could return something with headaches to the seller anyway even before this. The majority of online sellers and corps are giving an at
@baseballandchevys wrote:I agree with the replies. I am an individual seller that sells vintage and used and collectibles. I know ebay has these ridiculous return policies in place. We are not selling new guaranteed items like the big chain stores that EBAY also allows to sell on their site. If a buyer has a problem with an item I am sure they go through the store site to resolve it. (less work for ebay) Ebay forgot who helped them start up their site. Us individual sellers. Now they made it easy for buyer abuse. Their should be an entire different section and policies for used and collectibles. Not bunched in with the chain stores as they tell me "you are just like Walmart" True quote from an ebay emplioyee.
least 30 day return policy on items. Some of this change may reflect ebay being competitive with most online sales markets. If someone is going to return something the majority of returners contact sellers immediately after receiving the item. They want their money back and they want it fast. Agree that posting it in broad big letters on your return section is a scary thing, but look at your past record of returns and if there has been no significant problems then the likelyhood of this change causing more returns may be small. Take a deep breathe and best to all.

an example of ebay's stupidity....encouraging buyers to 'shoplift'....i sell a socket to a customer...i'm stupid and send wrong socket...i realize my mistake...i send correct socket next day, and notify customer...tell customer to keep the extra..customer replies no problem.....customer recieves wrong socket...files item not as described case....i explain to ebay 2 or 3 times like a broken record....customer recieves correct socket...now has the 1 he bought, plus 1 more free....ebay refunds customer, tells me i'm not at fault, don't lose any money....go figure the sense in that,

Vintage - is eBay a "managed marketplace" or "just a venue"?
When you sell on Amazon you are simply fulfilling THEIR sales. You are just providing the merchandise, THAT is why you must agree to their standards.
On eBay, thats NOT the case. eBay is simple a fancy website - and they have said to the courts MANY MANY times that they arent responsible for what goes on in listings - so why "here" are they all of a sudden in charge?
Theres nothing wrong with a reasonable returns policy - its the fraud and theft - condoned and encouraged by eBay's "they can return a box of rocks to you and it doesnt matter" attitude, thats at issue here.
In your business - what would you do if your partner stole from you? Would you keep him/her on? Would you fire them? Would you call the police? Or would you say "well thats the cost of doing business so its ok".
I PROMISE you (knowing the smart and intelligent person you are) that you wouldnt tke it for a moment - and why should you?
Why does selling on eBay mean that a seller is almost garunteed to be on the loosing end?
Is eBay a sales channel or a gambling den? Last I looked - its San Jose not Las Vegas.
Why should a seller have to invest money on merchandise only for eBay to arbitrarily decide that they get to "feed the beast" so that eBay will continue to make money off it?
Try buying a 50" LED 4k TV from Best Buy, then go back and return your 10 yr old 32" tube TV and see what happens. See what the manager says to you, watch what happens when they escort you off the premises and call the cops - as well they should.
eBay just spent MILLIONS on some new welcome center/rest stop. Maybe if they took that money and reimbursed their sellers - the ones that they allow the theft from instead, eBays sales figures would improve and MAYBE the stock would actually climb above $30 a share.
True, if you dont like it you can always go somewhere else - but alot of people dont have anywhere else to go. eBay knows that too. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to get approved on Amazon for clothing? eBay knows this too and uses that knowledge against its own sellers. They know they have no where else to go and take advantage. GREAT partner huh?
Why is eBay even IN the returns business to start with? Why cant eBay be organic? Every seller should be allowed to have the policy that THEY decide. 30 days, 3 days, 1 day shipping, 2 weeks shipping. Why is everyone "the same"?
A buyer should be able to READ a listing and buy that item based on the terms layed out. If you dont like those terms then DONT buy from that specific seller. Why is that so hard?
eBay isnt my partner. They dont pay taxes for me, they arent shareholders, they never appeared at any board meetings - they are JUST A VENUE - and thats how ALL of us prefer it.
Theft from your sellers ISNT a business plan.

This is why I will never tell anyone to sell on ebay. I always tell them to go somewhere else. They care about us as much as the dead road kill on the road. Both full of magets that are eating you to the bone. Thats as stupid as charging us seller fees on shipping. I have a letter into the atterney general. Im pretty sure its not legal to charge somebody profit over a USPS federal charges. Money Money Money. I cant wait till my business takes off so i can rid of ebay once and for all.

Here is my view im loosing my top rated seller and discounts anyway so now I can just go back to NO RETURNS Ever. None nodda zipo. Also changing to 1 week shipping time. We all need to stick together. Lets make ebay take the heat for returns. If everyone changes to No Returns Maybe we can give enough heat back on them when they start loosing customers. Or constant complaining. I hope they crash. I pray every night that people just start going elsewhere. I know Im ready to.
