I am replying to my own question. After contacting their automated helpers and getting nowhere, I started exploring my account settings and found that I could turn off the automatic cancellation by ebay after their specified time.

That's what I thought. I know my late husband used to use his needles & lancets over and would complain that he sometimes hit a nerve. I tried to convince they do get dull with use and a new needle would be best.
