Is it safe to give out IMEI number when asked?  

I am selling an iphone, is it safe to give out the IMEI or is this part of a scam?thanks

Buyer from another country wants send me extra money and have me add a gift card in package and ship it to her granddaughter in the states. Seems a lil fishy to me??? Any hell would be appreciated.
