how to market the new postal increase?

There is a postal increase almost every year about this time.

USPS rates are lower than in most first world countries. (Here in Canada the base price of a (domestic)  stamp is 85 cents. And we don't get 25 cent Confirmation of Delivery or free packaging materials either.)

Also, all your competitors will be paying higher rates too.

So.

Keep in mind that YOU decide what is a reasonable shipping rate to charge.

Keep in mind that the BUYER is paying for shipping. Even Free Shipping just means that shipping is included in the asking price.

Keep in mind that Free Shipping is very very popular with buyers. Use it if you can.

If you offer Free Shipping domestically, you will not be charged shipping FVF on any shipping charges even those "Air Mail to Australia" sales.

Use Calculated Shipping over Flat Rate, Not only does it make sure that you are not under or over charging, but it also looks more "official" even if you do include a handling charge.

A handling charge is called a  'packaging ' charge in the UK. Bubble wrap ain't free.

And if you do sell Internationally, PLEASE note that eBay does not suggest using the Global Shipping Program for items valued under $50. Opt out for these items. If you do use GSP for lowvalue items, you will either lose sales or gain negative FB from unhappy customers.
