Why do all of my listings say I am in United States when I am in AMERICA?

Why are we subjected on ebay on all of our listings saying we are from the UNITED STATES  when we are from America?    United States consists of district of Columbia,  Puerto Rico, Guam,  and the military personnel.      Please do some research and change all of my listings to AMERICA.

Their specialist team said they could do nothing for me but I was welcome to post anything on the chat board so I did.  I only did what they asked me to do!

you didn't do well in geography did you?

As was pointed out, the Americas refer to all the countries in North & South America.

The United States of America refers to the 50 states and includes DC & our overseas territories.

We are not "American" as a nationality, we are United States of America citizens.

We are American in that we and every other country in North and South America belong to the Americas. They are also Americans

By definition what you say is true, though in my experience, try telling a Canadian they are American and they will tell you very bluntly otherwise.

You are referring to the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1871.  28 USC 3002.   The Internet myth interprets the word "incorporated" of this Act to mean "becoming a Legal Corporation", when it in fact means "part of the whole".

Getting back to your original question, there are two reasons eBay refers to your location as "United States" rather than "America".

1.  eBay may be run by crackpots, but not that kind of crackpot.

2.  "America" actually would be confusing to buyers and detrimental to your sales.

The United States of America (or the US, USA, United States, or America) is a part of the Americas, North America to be specific.

John Adams used the term America in his inaugural address long before the United States became a world power, in fact long before the US was much of anything. So we have been calling ourselves Americans since at least 1797, and nobody seemed to mind...until recently.

I was born and live in the United States. I'm an American from the United States. Why? Because John Adams said so and United Statesian sounds stupid.

But you are only part of the whole If you concede.   If you are a man or a woman you still live under COMMON LAW and the court is not in your jurisdiction.   You are not the third party entity the courts make you out to be!

I'm glad someone understands,   but you know the people are blind just as the government wants them to be.   We are state citizens in the lower 50 states not US citizens

I'm so sorry, I did, I did, and I've been though many parts of it too, my apologies, it was an over sight. South America ROCKS!!! 🙂 And is part of America of course!
