Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

I recently posted about slow sales on Ebay and how I believe problems with Ebay's site are at least partially responsible for subpar sales. While I wholeheartedly believe this to be true, I also feel like something is up with the economy. Within my circle of friends and acquaintances, I see a lot of people either barely holding their own or struggling with finances. When times are good, I typically see people doing remodels, buying big ticket items and going on vacations. I see very little of these activities going on in my community. Is it my imagination or just a local thing, or are you seeing the same. Just wanted to get the perspectives of the Ebay community throughout the U.S. Thanks!

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

No you're not alone ,, not by a long shot . People by the thousands are still standing in line in the rain just to get into one of the presidents rallies . They are packed to the brim each and every time . Election day will be a sad one for the Democratic party . There's no question about that at all . They know it too . Its one of the reasons we've been seeing so much of their desperation to get Trump out of office before the voters put him back in 2020. Tulips"

All I have to say is your recent comments, along with those of other Trump supporters are absolutely toxic and one sided. I know you will just attack me for things that I have said about Trump and claim likewise. But those of you who support Trump have got to understand that Trump is not a typical president. He solely represents the right and just bashes the left. He is not the president for the people, but only for those who support him. Anyone who speaks out against him, he bashes and calls them names. How did we ever get this point of so much hate and division? Trump is fueling this division and that is greatly harmful. I also lay blame on the media. Even though left leaning media may be partially to blame, I believe the right is far worse. Fox, Drudge, Breitbart, Hannity and Limbaugh, just to name a few, are spreaders of hate and lies. I challenge you to find any mainstream source which rates the factual accuracy of media sites, which doesn't put these sites at the bottom for accuracy. They spew more misinformation than any mainstream liberal outlet (I am not talking about small fringe sites), based on the best factual data I can find. I know you will bring up the suing of CNN, well that is a singular incident and I prefer to look at the body of reporting over a longer period of time (once again, look at sites which rate media accuracy). I ask one other question (which I am sure you will just brush off), why is the president surrounded by criminals and shady people? What is Lev Parnas doing in Trump's circle? What about Manafort, Gates, Stone, Cohen, Flynn and Papadopoulos?. Do you know how many officials were indicted in Obama's 2 terms, 0, yes 0. This love affair with Trump is hard for many of us to understand. By all measures, Trump is a horrible person. He is not a person I am proud to be representing me and my country. He does not make me feel patriotic (quite the opposite). If your going to reply, give me facts that refute what I say and make them from sites that are reputable. It is quite laughable when many of you try to justify Trump's penchant for lying, by pointing out lies by others (like Warren). This is just stupid. Trump has lied over 10,000 times and you get all excited by a handful of lies. There is a matter of degree here. Additionally, Trump is President. That's all, back to Ebay now.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

couldabeen worse said:

"There is ALWAYS an economic recession coming; peaks and troughs are just part of the normal economic cycle.

How we perceive the current and future overall US economy apparently depends more on our own personal situation and (sadly) our political beliefs than on any statistical data."

"The statistical data is currently positive and all the indicators are not forecasting a recession anytime in the next twelve months. Barring some as now unforeseen event, the economy should be fairly good for an election year. Whether we like it or not, how the economy is doing effects all of us and we should all hope that it continues to grow at a 2.5% - 3% rate. Excluding Ebay, just because someone is not currently doing well financially does not mean things can't get worse for them if the economy were to go into recession. Apparently there are some selfish/ignorant people out there with no idea what they are hoping for."

If you are referring to any of my comments, when did I ever say I was hoping for a recession? It's obvious, I don't like nor do I agree with most of what he does, but I am not hoping for a recession. You know there is more to liking/backing a president than a singular issue. For instance, to me, the environment is the number one issue, and in that regard Trump is a disaster. So we all have our priorities and beliefs. I just wish we had a president that brought dignity to the office and respected all americans. I frankly am embarrassed by him.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

My remarks regarding the current state of our economy and anyone hoping for a recession in order to sway the coming election apply to any American regardless of their political affiliation. As Americans we should all be hoping this economy continues at a 2.5% - 3% annual growth rate. With a few more years of sustained growth we may at last be able to tackle some of the other serious issues facing our nation such budget deficits and the national debt.

O.K., I can totally agree with that. Not many people are truly hoping for a recession.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

I'm upset today, when I learned that our troops were injured in the missile launch on the Iraqi base 9 days ago.  Trump claimed no US soldiers were hurt.  I didn't think Iran could have missed their mark by that much.  So for 9 days, have these soldiers been keeping quiet?  Families weren't told?   Also, I remember shortly after the Ukranian passenger plane went down.  We were told that was mechanical by OUR leaders.  I didn't buy that, either.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

Perfect example. I watched that interview. Trump said he did get his picture taken with him like he does thousands of other people but doesn't really know him and never talked with him. If you don't believe me watch the interview. True or not but that what was said.

The media always plays the parts that you want to hear but not the entire story. Another "bombshell" from a guy in jail trying to get a good deal.

Remember Michael Avenatti? The CPL. Going to run for president and beat Trump. Ended up robbing Miss Daniels, making up totally false accusations against Bret Kavanaugh, went to work for CNN and is now in jail without bond for a array of crimes including money laundering.

That's exactly how this Parnas thing is going to end.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

We were never told by our leaders that it was mechanical! That's flat out false. The Iranians said that. They also said that forty of our soldiers were killed and guess what, NBC decided to be the mouth piece for the Iranians and ran with both stories without confirming it. I guess they were trying to start that they seemed to be hoping for.

The injured soldiers. My prayers are with them first and foremost. They are in concussion protocol in Germany. Not something that's diagnosed right away.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove here. Sure the part is true when Trump stated that he takes photos with many people and may have taken one with Parnas. But the part about not knowing him and not having talked with him is impossible to believe. So far, everything Parnas has claimed in recent interviews has been backed up by text messages he has provided. It is very clear that he was working directly along side Giuliani, under his direction (with Trump directing Giuliani). You are telling me that Trump was directing this whole scheme and didn't know who Parnas was. Very hard to believe. Also, it was just not just 1 photo with him, but many. You also appear to acknowledge that Parnas is a crook. Why then is he working with Giuliani at Trumps direction. Come on, use your head.

I call you out on this one. Please provide me the link to the story where NBC states that 40 U.S. soldiers were killed in the base bombing. And if they did, what was the context. I  have a feeling they were just stating what Iranian officials had claimed and there is nothing wrong with that.

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

Fox News dominates basic cable ratings for 37th straight month ...
www.foxnews.com
Jul 30, 2019 ... Ratings-challenged CNN finished a distant No. 13, averaging only 797,000 primetime viewers and shedding 11 percent of its audience ...

CNN  is doing EXACTLY what we've told you ,, they've been reporting  lies , getting caught and now are finally facing lawsuits .  Lev Parnas  was only in a photo  along with Trump  but they don't know each other . Frankly  I think he's corrupt enough to be singled out by the far left  to try and throw in one  last thing  against Trump ,, sort of  extra insurance  towards their desperate attempt to impeach him .  If you remember this is the type of  stuff they do . They were downright giddy  over the creepy porn lawyer  and they got all excited  about his bid for the presidency . However  I guess now they will need to wait until he gets out of prison ,, which may be a long wait.  I also remember when Bill Clinton was president . He rarely did much except to run around the white house sexually harassing women . Do you remember THOSE lawsuits ?  Broadrick ? of course it wasn't  until he lied to the grand jury  that he was impeached . Lets see ,, I can't think of a single Democrat who didn't fight against his impeachment . Jerry Nadler called it a witch hunt ,, yeah ,, the very same Jerry Nadler whose heavily involved in trying to  impeach Trump.   You don't like Trump's personality  okay,, but big deal  .  In comparison to a booming economy , prison reform ,hostage release , USWMC , the China trade deal  and bringing jobs back to the American  soil  I'll go along with the rest of the population and choose the latter anytime. It's what he's doing for us that matters . The voters didn't put Trump in office so he could win a mister Personality contest . We did so because his policies are sound  and provenly so.  The phony   impeachment will never see the light of day  because Americans are getting the change we needed . Impeachment  will come to an abrupt halt  in the Senate ..  There's absolutely no doubt about that . In the end the Democrats will be left holding the bag  and looking just as silly as they did after Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed .  Tulips

That plane was shot down by the Iranians themselves   as we all know now . If  the left wing media were honest  they'd give the full report and show the thousands of the Iranian people  who have taken to the streets to protest their own cutthroat  government  for that. Instead what did they do ? They began praising Somalia  and likened his death to that of princess Diana . They actually praised an  enemy  of the U.S who was responsible for the deaths of over 600 Americans.  And why ? because president Trump ordered his killing,, thats why  . Their  Trump hatred has become so deeply pathological  that they are now siding with our enemies just in an attempt to make Trump look bad.  The left love to call themselves the defenders of diversity   and yet they will praise the leaders of a nation that  ordain the murders of gay people just for being gay .  It's truly  appalling .  Tulips

Re: Do you feel a recession coming in your bones

A good or bad economy is more regional than it has ever been.  I live in an area where the economy is good.

Restaurants are closing because they can't get enough help.  The part time jobs my boss has advertised have gone unanswered - he pays $14 an hour, no benefits because it's not full time.  My garbage company can't keep drivers, they have a constant turnover.  My propane company can't keep drivers, they have a constant turnover.  In a bad economy, if you have a job you stay, there is no ability to be mobile.

Yes, the price of housing is going up.  So is the price of raw land.  Tear-downs are common, especially when two houses will fit on the lot that currently has one.  Housing values are going up, people who have lived in their home for 20 or 30 years are selling - the price is too good to refuse.

There is a level of people who are not enjoying this great economy.  They are losing cheap housing, they don't qualify for the higher paid jobs.  They do have to work two or more jobs to make ends meet.  But this is not something new.  This is something that has always been with us.   We are more aware of the differences than before.
