Could this be a spittoon? Need help figuring out what this Silverplate thing is!

It's marked Italy, it's small about 6 inches high.  I've no idea what it is!!

It’s a coal hod for cleaning out a fireplace, or transferring coal from one fireplace to another.

 In the SEARCH bar, put in COAL HOD. Many styles are listed.
