Was the card on a rack that anyone can access prior to you buying/taking to the register?
It's been 'taken, scratched, numbers recorded and a 'fake' 'scratch' put over the top, returned to the store. As soon as it is 'activated with $$- the thief takes your money.
Google it. Print that info; then take back to the store with your receipt.
When they try to tell you the 'terms on the back of the card is that they are NOT responsible for Lost or Stolen Cards'- tell them that "THEY sold me a stolen card, it wasn't stolen from me!!

You might want to remove the photo of the back of the card that shows the number, anyone can use the card now.
How long ago did you buy the card?
It could take a few hours for the card to be active.
Go back to the store and see why there is no money on it.
