Ganz Stuffed Animals - Code vs. No Code

I have 7 Ganz stuffed animals, all with what I'm calling a long hair fabric.  I'm seeing Ganz listings that indicate "with code" or "no code".  Can someone explain 1. the difference of code vs. no code 2. what the code looks like, i.e. number of letters/digits  3. where to find the code 4. the value difference  between code vs. no code.  Thank you.

Re: Ganz Stuffed Animals - Code vs. No Code

Those are the Ganz Webkins (small plush stuffed animals). Apparently, when Ganz released those toys, they had a website set up so that, with a code you would find on the hang tag, you could play some kind of game online. I had a couple of those around my place, with the hang tags and thus codes, presumably a different one for each stuffed animal. Out of curiosity, I looked at a hang tag, went to the website, and it was out of commission. I thought those Webkins had thus become obsolete. However, I did check eBay right now and see that there is still a market for Webkins and those with a hang tag (and thus a code) sell for more than those without a hangtag (and thus without a code). Unless that wesite has been re-instated, the only difference I can think of as to why one animal with no code  would bring a lower price than the same animal with a code is analagous to a toy having a hang tag and one that does not. Like "mint with tag" vs. no tag.

Sorry for the typos...I hope what I tried to explain makes sense. 🙂

Re: Ganz Stuffed Animals - Code vs. No Code

P.S. I just went looking for the Webkinz play site I mentioned and there it was! Seems to be up and running. And the code is an "adoption code" that you register. Thank you for renewing my interest in these. I run across them all the time, with the hang tag, and I never buy them. Now I will.  🙂 So, if you go to the Webkinz play site, it will all become clear. hahaha

Thank you for this thorough explanation.  By hang tag, do you mean the tag that is sewn into the seam or a paper hang tag that is attached with a plastic string?

Re: Ganz Stuffed Animals - Code vs. No Code

A hang tag is one that is made of heavy paper or light cardboard and is fastened with one of those little plastic dealies that you have to cut off with scissors. On a Webkinz, I think the hang tag is encased in a clear vinyl packet, so you can't access that code unless you cut the hang tag off and open the paper inside. The label sewn onto the body, in a side seam, is generally called a "tush tag."

Aha, now I know what a tush tag is.  I also noticed that each animal has an embroidered "W" on the bottom of their feet/paw.  Do you know what that is?  Also, do you recommend selling one by one or as a lot (I now have 8).  Thank you!

Re: Ganz Stuffed Animals - Code vs. No Code

The "W" is for Webkinz."  It looks like there are collectors who want to have every animal, even if it doesn't have a hang tag ("no code") anymore. If those Webkinz you have were mine, I would list each one separately (as a "no code") and mention in each listing that you have other Webkinz listed and will combine shipping. I always check the eBay market before I list something. I look to see what one just like mine sold for. If someone else has one like mine already listed, I will make my listing price less than theirs (unless I have too much money invested in the item--then I will hold onto it until no one else has one listed).  I make it a point to never lose money on something I list. I have a friend who will just "dump" her stuff for less than she paid for it, just to move it along. Not me. 🙂
