Does anyone know why when uploading an image to eBay the color temperature changes on the image to a more cooler image? Which gives the product an inaccurate look.

This could be due to processing and saving the image in Adobe aRGB color space instead of standard sRGB color space.  eBay doesn't recognize aRGB encoding, and viewing aRGB as sRGB results in dull colors.

We also know that eBay has a formula for adding contrast, gamma, and sharpening to various sizes, so the smaller images, like thumbnails, will appear a little darker as more data is lost in compression and tweaking.

This started happening on all my NEW listing photos yesterday. By the end of the day I was in tears. I called CS. They gave me a very patronizing lecture on pixels and the internet. I had to end the call before I got mad. CS not listening. I’ve photographed, edited, and listed more than 30,000 photos to my ebay store over the past few years and no problems like this. I ended up removing most of my new listings from yesterday because I can’t stand looking at what should be red & blue but is instead drab gray & orange on my once beautiful photos. At the same time, ebay made some updates to the photo editor in the FORUM, but I’ve been told by forum participants that it shouldn’t effect our listing photos even though both are happening at the same time and there are never coincidences when it comes to ebay. I’m hoping someone knowledgeable responds to your post because I am not listing any more new items until they fix or address this. I spend hours carefully editing my photos, so to have their colors distorted so badly is a huge problem My photos are a major part of my little brand here. Hoping you get a real response soon and that this gets addressed because CS is clueless.

It is very unlikely there is any correlation between the photo editor that Khoros uses on the community forum platform and the photo editor that eBay uses for listing creation -- two different design teams at two different companies.

Additionally, since photo upload preparation is handled at the browser level, the browser has first shot at modifying images.

Are you modifying photos on your desktop and then uploading them through the iPad App or are you  taking the photos with your iPad and then uploading to eBay? Are you using any of the onscreen photo editing tools on the listing form?

eBay makes platform changes on Thursday nights. Did you see this photo issue begin on Friday morning? When did your iPad and App last update?

Can you upload a duplicate photo to one of your listings? That might allow us to see the difference between the earlier image processing and the later image processing.

I use an iPad for everything. I take the photos with my iPad, then edit/crop the photos, then upload them to my listing via the app. All done on my iPad. I made no changes to my iPad. I was out of town for a few days and started listing again yesterday. That’s when I noticed it. No, I do not use any of eBay’s photo editing tools. I use my own, so that I only have to upload my finished photos to my listing. EBay’s photo editing tools are quite elementary compared with the editing tools I use on my iPad AND because my listing photos are also part of a book I’m compiling, my editing needs to be done on my device, not eBay’s system. Attached are four photos, two examples, of the problem. The vibrant photos are my photos. The drab photos are what they look like when uploaded to ebay. And all of this as of yesterday morning. Collectors of my items know the true colors and as you can see the ebay versions look faded, which reduces their value considerably.

Could you upload a duplicate to a listing so we can see the difference in file size as well? So far, it looks like the reds are desaturating more than other colors and perhaps this was intentional because reds are the worst bleeders under compression. Do you have a listing with a full gamut of colors where a duplicate photo can be posted for comparison?

I don’t know what you’re asking me, sorry. Not very technical.

According to CS, my photos are all at least 1600 pixels on long side. Does that help? I asked them to confirm after they lectured me repeatedly on pixels and the internet. I’m not technical, but not stupid either. LOL.

Are you wanting to see what it does to blue? It desaturates blues turning them drab gray. I’ll see if I can find one from yesterday that I removed that has the blues. I just don’t know what you’re asking me, so I’m guessing here.

This listing has room for two more photos.

Could you add these two photos again from your ipad? These are the two from that listing that show the most variation in color.  If the processing has changed, they should look different than the same photos in that listing that were previously uploaded.

I’m trying. But again, since my photos are edited, they auto save as .jpeg which ebay forum doesn’t let us upload. I have tried screenshots but now it says my screenshots are too big. Really? I’m trying! Here’s one, maybe its small enough. I’ll try the other in a next response.

I simply can NOT upload the second photo. I keep getting an error message that the screen shot file size is too big. Screen shot? Really? LOL. Sorry, trying to keep positive here.

And the colors are only doing this on the photos uploaded yesterday. It didn’t change any that were already listed. Just the ones uploaded yesterday. If that helps. Everything else loaded prior to yesterday looks fine.
