Who the heck cares? (#3)

There is always someone who cares.   I know this is TCM's thread & hope she doesn't mind if I start #3.   We can't go without a 'who the heck cares'.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

🙏

One time Tab snuck past Husband and Son when they left for work and stayed gone for 4 days.

We'd given up on him, thinking a coyote or bobcat or another tomcat probably killed him.

He just came out of the woods across the fence one day while we were on the back porch.

He was acting skittish and nervous for a few days, but got back to his lazy ways pretty quick.

Never underestimate a cat, Fruit. They often come out on top when nothing else would.

I remember you said you had been having chilly wet weather.

He may've gotten close to the motor on a car to get out of the cold and 'rode' somewhere.

Happened to me and first husband.

One of the cats got under the hood and rode to work with us, stayed under the hood all night while we worked our shift, rode to Mil and Fil's house and then she decided to make her presence known.

C.A.T. may come swaggering up into the yard any day now and not say a word about where he's been.

I hope that heiffer Sil of yours leaves your flowers alone.

That's a gorgeous cake, Dom.

The baker is very talented.

I will imagine eating a slice with my coffee.

That former neighbor of yours, Shirley.😡

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Still no sign of C.A.T. Broke down & went to the (somewhat unfriendly) neighbors & asked if they had seen him & to please call me if they do & checked along the highway that runs in front of the farmstand. It has now been a week.....& I am starting to prepare for the worst.

This is been a difficult week. When I went home to take care of the cemetery work.....I finally found my youngest brother's grave (didn't have the headstone last year). He didn't get a planter this year. I am now up to 3 brothers & my mom in that cemetery & 2 remaining brothers that I haven't a clue where they are. And of course, my yearly "vanitas" moment at the cemetery where my dad is buried (I was named after him, right down to the middle initial....nothing like seeing your name on a headstone to dampen your day).

I blew next week's grocery money to plant up the planters for Mr. Fabulous, his mom & his grandma. Earlier in the spring, SIL had filled them with (what I thought were) potted daffodills/narcissus. When I went to remove them from the planters they were in heavy clay-like soil......and I realized she had dug them out of MIL's extensive flower bed. ☹️ She's basicaly destroying any trace of my MIL at the farmhouse (my MIL had a huge bridal veil bush....she let the goats eat it to the ground. MIL's landscaping was a huge "English Farmhouse " garden & it's almost all gone). So I guess I'm planting bulbs (at the wrong time of year) & hoping they make it. Haven't figured out where yet.

One good thing.....the guy who's storing some stuff in my back barn came over & mowed out in the orchards & farm area so it now looks like someone lives here & I got the lawn mowed.

It looks like I'm bailing hay out there......time to find the rake.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

C.A.T. has been found......but not in a good way. 15 acres to roam.....& he decided to cross the highway.😢 The ditch is covered in mown grass & he was in it.

I spent 2 hours digging a hole for him (everything is heavy clay & it was a job) in an area by the farm pond under a big blue spruce that was his "hide out" while stalking rabbits. I had been trimming back the new growth on the spruces (very soft needles & strong fragrance), so I lined it with the soft cuttings & fresh cut grass. When I finished, I covered it with spruce boughs....then a couple of cement blocks so the animals couldn't dig it up.

Farewell little tiger.....may the rabbits be slow & stupid, the mice come to you & there's always a comfy place in the sun for a nap. Be fierce.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

(((Fruit))),that was the possibility I didn't want to think about.

Very familiar with that experience.

Well Fruit, the rascal had a great life with you.

All that land to roam and animals to stalk.

He knew he had it made too.

That attitude of his made it plain he considered himself the boss of the place.

I don't think he could've achieved that status with somebody else.

♥️

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Ya'll I'm alive and well and still able to sign in (for now anyway).

School has kept me very busy plus I'm still part time at the insurance office.

That being said, we've now moved to summer hours, whoohoo, with no teachers and no students it's a lot slower. I'm actually at the insurance office right now.

I'm really loving the school job, really really!

I'll go back and read, when I can!

Fredi actually owes us for the worry she caused.

We'll come up with penance. 🤣

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Stopped at an estate sale yesterday.....while going through the "junk jewelry", found 2 sets of old tarnished, rather large & gaudy earings. That (upon a closer look).....turned out to be "pasties".😲🤣

"....Grandma? What did you do during the war?  I have to write a paper for History class."😉

(& no....I did not buy them. Wrong size.) Maybe I should have got them for Fredi.

Part of the reason I was there.....I was begining to pack up C.A.T.'s stuff. And I kind of lost it when I found his "secret stash" of paper wads/tinfoil balls. I just needed to go somewhere for a bit.

The other reason.....I have had no telly for almost a week, something went "walkabout" with the dish. Since there was no tv, I was keeping busy "tidying up" & that's when I found his stash.

It's been a rather long week.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Yup, Fruit, that would hit a soft spot.   How long did you have C.A.T?  Long enough to love the rascal.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Hola Cathy17....!  You mentioned rain.  Well, yesterday one weather prognosticator  on Hollywood TV said it was possible we would see some lightning strikes and maybe some rain for Tuesday 3 Junio.   Nada all day long.  However, in the evening about 4:30PM some thunder was heard.  Heron was on cell phone call with a family member.

All of a sudden there was a boom here.  A really big boom.  Loudest lightning strike Heron has heard.  So, the family member quickly found the app for lightning strikes. Heron had no idea there was such a thing.  According to the app, that bolt of lightning hit about 100 feet from Heron's condo.  Then all lightning strikes afterwards were smaller and getting further from our location.  We even had a sprinkling of rain. Just enough to give Heron's desert plants a drink or two...!

Fruit Flogger: Sorry to hear the tough news regarding your pet.  It is always a tough thing to have happen.

Fredi- Good to see you are able to visit for awhile.  Good luck with the new job.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Whew, elheron-grande, did it make you weak-in-the-knees? Why back in 2001 on my computer one day I received a e-mail requesting prayers for Geo. W. Bush. I read the first couple of lines and deleted it. It was the first time I ever saw a politician use the Internet ever and of course they, whoever it was, pandered to the easiest target. Then I heard thunder so I shutdown and unplugged the phone line and went out on the porch. No sooner then I got up the steps and turned around and BOOM! loudest clap of thunder I'd ever heard. Made me weak-in-the-knees but luckily a chair was behind me and I sat down alittle bewildered.  Well call me superstitious but from that moment on I had my druthers about Geo. W. Bush.
