Adrian - Praise God!  Such wonderful news.  I had not heard from you in some time and figured you were busy with treatments.  In all things......give thanks.

Roxie - Mortgage-burning party was when she made the final payment on her home.

Carol - Thank you.  It is easier getting about without that much excess weight.  A little more and I will be extremely happy.  I have already had to lower my dosages of several of my medications.

Re: Prayer Request Thread

Hello Everyone,

A couple years ago I sent several PRTers some Chia Seeds to plant and grow because they are one of Gods perfect foods. Now I am wondering if anyone has had success and have any excess of it? There is a national shortage of them now and Europe is out and paying well for any. Our growing season is too short here. I have successfully grown small amounts inside our home but it has been just enough for us!

Not only the seeds but as sprouts and the leaves are also good.  Anyone with success? Donna, Janice,  Lynn, Adrian, Carole. Kathy How is your Air Force Man? Anyone?

Chia seed is a complete source of dietary protein, providing all the essential amino acids. Compared to other seeds and grains, chia seed provides the highest source of protein, between 19 to 23 percent protein by weight. One of the unique qualities of the chia seed is its ability to absorb more than nine times its volume in water or other liquid. This ability can prolong hydration and retain electrolytes in body fluids, especially during exertion or exercise. Normal fluid retention ensures electrolyte dispersion across cell membranes, maintains fluid balances, and aids normal cellular function.

The gel-forming property of chia seed tends to slow digestion and sustain balanced blood sugar levels, which can be helpful in preventing or controlling diabetes. Whole, water-soaked chia seeds can be easily digested and absorbed. This results in rapid transport of chia nutrients to the tissues for use by the cells. Chia also facilitates the growth and regeneration of tissue during pregnancy and lactation, and aids the regeneration of muscles and we all know the main muscle we have is our Heart!

Chia seeds contain high levels of both ornega-3 and omega-6 oils, needed by all people.  They Contain greater alpha-linolenic acid concentrations than any other seed or grain. This substance lowers the risk of heart disease, blurred vision, and numbness. Chia seed contains large amounts of B vitamins and calcium. By volume, one ounce of chia contains two percent B-2 (riboflavin), 13 percent niacin, and 29 percent thiamin, and trace amounts of all B vitamins. In roughly two ounces of chia (100 grams), there are 600 milligrams of calcium, contrasted with 120 milligrams of calcium in the same amount of milk. That’s five times as much calcium than milk!

It also contains boron, which is needed for bones. With much of the nation’s soil boron depleted, we simply are not getting enough boron in our daily diets. Boron is needed to aid the metabolism of calcium, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus in bones and for muscle growth. Boron also can increase the levels of natural estrogen.

Early results in current cancer research with chia show promise in this area.

It is an excellent source of fiber.

Chia seeds have been a staple food source for the American Native people for centuries. Aztec warriors would eat chia during hunting trips, and the Indians of the Southwest would eat only chia seed mixed with water as they ran from the Colorado River to the Pacific Ocean to trade products.

Ancient documents shows that in Mayan times there were four important crops: corn, beans, chia, and amaranth. These four crops comprised the main components of the Aztec and Mayan diets when Columbus arrived in the New World. After conquering Mexico, Spaniards banned growing Chia plants?

They typically contain 20% protein, 34% oil, and 25% dietary fiber. The oil from chia seeds contains a very high concentration of Omega 3 fatty acid - approx. 64% in the oil. Chia seeds contain no gluten so it is useful for people with the celiac disease.

If you mix a spoon of Chia seeds in a glass of water and leave it for 30 minutes or so, you will get a glass with almost solid gelatin. This gel-forming process is due to the soluble fiber in the Chia. Researchers believe this same gel-forming phenomenon may take place in the stomach when food containing these fibers, known as mucilage's, are eaten. The gel that is formed in the stomach creates a physical barrier between carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down, thus slowing the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar. This obviously benefits people with diabetes.

Another quality of the Chia seed is its high oil content. Not only that, but the quality of such oil is excellent. It is the richest vegetable source for the essential omega-3 fatty acid. These oils, unsaturated fatty acids, are the essential oils your body needs to help emulsify and absorb the fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, & K. In addition, Chia has no cholesterol. This is different than other sources of omega-3 fatty acids such as fish meat, fish oil, & fish meal all of which contain significant amounts of cholesterol. For health conscious consumers this gives chia an important advantage compared to fish products.

Chia seeds have a high content of protein (up to 23%). Chia seed proteins are easily digested, which results in rapid transportation to tissues and fast utilization by the cells. This fast and efficient assimilation makes the Chia seeds very effective when rapid development of tissue is needed to take place, for example, during growth periods in children and adolescents or during tissue repairs.

Chia can be stored for years without deterioration in flavor, odor or nutritional value. This is because of the presence on natural antioxidants. This is an advantage compared with marine products like fish oil and fish meal as well as algae oil and powder (also rich in omega-3 fatty acids) which require special packaging and storage conditions to prevent even minor changes occurring over time.

Chia is a sustainable and environmentally friendly crop. The high oil content of its leaves acts as an extremely potent insect repellent and eliminates the need for pesticides being used to protect the crop. This opens up the possibility of obtaining organically grown seed so valuable in today´s market.

Chia may be used in food processing. A gel prepared with 1 part of chia seeds and 9-10 parts of water is a great food extender, calorie-cutter and nutrient-enricher. Added to mayonnaise in an equal amount, chia gel doubles its volume without changing its taste. Mixed with a spread such as butter, it slashes calories and the amount of saturated fat. Additionally, Chia is ideal for enriching a number of products such as infant formulas, baby foods, baked goods, nutrition bars, yogurt, sauces, etc. When used as animal feed, omega-3 enriched products such as eggs, poultry, beef, milk, and cheese, etc. Are produced.

Chia seeds have a nutlike flavor and they should be considered to be a healthful and interesting addition to our diets. They can be sprinkled, ground or whole, on cereal, yogurt, or salads; or just eat a handful of whole seeds as a snack. "Chia fresca," a popular drink in Mexico and Central America is also easy to prepare. Just 2 teaspoons of the seeds into 8 to 10 ounces of water. That's it. Add lime or lemon juice and sugar and you are all set.

Chia seeds, whole, ground, mixed, or in drinks. An ancient superfood for today and always.

Apoligies to Roxie another scroller!

Love to All

Roy

Good morning everyone!

No, I do not have a clue as to how to play the banjo, but since I did not take an instrument, I had Ike take pics of me 'playing' all sorts of things.  I had a most WONDERFUL DAY at the Midland Folk Music festival.  Meeting up with friends, especially those that I missed at Evart when I spent most of the time sleeping in my trailer.  We got down there early and left late.  The music was wonderful.  We usually are there for several days, but I knew I was still not up to hauling the 5th wheel and then cleaning it out again.  I have it all cleaned and just have to make sure any liquids are not in there so it can get winterized and go spend the cold months over at Melanie's place.  One long day was just perfect.  We got out of there a little after midnight.

We had Greek food at the festival for lunch and then went out to a Chinese place that we like for dinner.  The stageshow was great, as always and I am so happy to be on the mend and able to meet with friends that I only get to see a few times a year.  Thank God for FB, my link to the outside world.

Melanie & Bob are getting married Friday.  They have been together for 5 years now, own a home together and it seems like they have been married all along.  This is just a formality.  The kids are happy about this as Bob is very good to them. He has called us the in-laws for a long time.  I know God will bless this marriage as this was surely meant to be.

It is supposed to be 90 today, so the house is all shut up and I hope it stays cool.

Chia seeds do not grow here.  I buy mine at the Amish bulk food store but they are quite expensive.

Have a most wonderful day! heart
