How to ELIMINATE CLUTTER from your life forever!

Hi everyone. I figured there had to be others out there in the millions of eBayers who want to eliminate clutter. So I decided to create a discussion thread and a "ME" page all about clutter and how to get rid of it and how to keep it out of our lives forever.

Personally I know my clutter problem took years to accumulate, and will take some time and effort to make things "normal" again. But I'm ready to dedicate myself to the effort. I'd like to discuss the tips and strategies necessary not just to eliminate clutter but to become the kind of person who does not ACCUMULATE CLUTTER in the first place! If you are interesting in creating a clutter-free life then let's talk!

How to ELIMINATE CLUTTER from your life forever!

I wanted to let you guys know that scanning your keepsakes and making a photobook is an excellent solution for storage! I finshed my daughter's book a few months ago and just recently finished my son's book. It just came in the mail, and I am so pleased! Kids' art just becomes faded and crumbly after a while. The book will last for decades. Shutterfly has the better quality than Picaboo and Snapfish in my opinion. Picaboo has a lot more freedom through more templates, lots more beautiful backgrounds and photo tools. The quality of the photos does not come out as good though, as the resolution is diminished when you upload your pictures. Anyway, I LOVE MY BOOKS! So cool!!!

Shutterfly also has an automatic option that fills the pictures in for you if you don't want to spend much time on the project.

Wishing everyone the best in decluttering this summer,
Rebekah

How to ELIMINATE CLUTTER from your life forever!

Hello Nonny and friends,

We're still maintaining here. I just went through my son's clothes and checked what clothes he had for this fall, so that I wouldn't buy things he doesn't need.

Mainly, I have home improvement projects going on. I removed the "Little House on the Prairie" wallpaper from the kitchen, which was no small task. I skim coated it and now am experimenting with texturing with mud. The first experiment was a disaster, which resulted in a lot of sanding. The fine white dust went everywhere. Last night I tried a wider blade, and it went better. Since it went okay, I am going to try to finish the rest of the kitchen today.

I put off improving the kitchen, because I wanted to replace the cabinets, countertops, and the sink. That's not in the budget, but I had to decide that it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful, (to quote Nester at nestingplacenc@blogspot.com). I will do what I CAN do and try to enjoy what I have.

Also, we tore out the tile in a bathroom to repair the damage caused by a leak behind the wall. We discovered that we needed to replace the green board and sheet rock. We put up new concete board, and I am almost done tiling. I need to finish tiling and grout the whole thing.

We are living in a bit of a mess from all this. On Wednesday, I was getting depressed and discouraged from it all and all the other jobs that need to be done. Yesterday, I braved the heat and mosquitos and trimmed the bushes outside. I also sprayed a citronella concoction to hopefully repell the mosquitos and nats in the yard. The yard looks so much better, but there is still some good work to be done out there.

Well, I will get back to my routine and see about those kitchen walls. Wish me luck!
Rebekah

How are the decluttering projects?

I like to re-read this thread with all the helpful hints
and encouraging words.

Unfortunately our community library flea market was
cancelled on Saturday. And it was raining so hard that
I didnt take the stuff over to the Thrift Store.
I'm hoping that the sun will come out this week and
I'll have time to pack up the pickup truck and get the
stuff down to the Thrift Store.

A little bit at a time.

Here's my update:
The kitchen walls are finished, and it looks so much better! The tile in the bathroom is grouted, and the fixtures are in. I need to caulk and seal the grout.

We ripped out the bathroom flooring, and now the concrete needs a good scrubbing to get the glue off. I'm thinking about staining the concrete if I can get it looking good enough.

The donation truck made it's rounds last Friday, and several bags and boxes left. It's nice to have those things gone.

I need to tackle the laundry room at some point.

Good luck, everyone! 🙂

Since my last post on this thread, I have taken two trips to Goodwill with several bags. A donation truck is making rounds in the neighborhood today and 3-4 kitchen trashbags full are on the porch.
It's getting better here, but I need to do more.

Some of the things I recently donated:
A tortilla press (never used)
A tortilla holder
A hand mixer
2 chandeliers
A fax machine
Books
Clothes
Toys
CDs
DVDs
Decorative things
Kids educational items

How to ELIMINATE CLUTTER from your life forever!

I am going crazy trying to decide what stays and what goes. I don't know why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My kids have decluttered toys that I am mulling over:

1. A brown build-a-bear with happy birthday accessories and medical kit.

2. A build-a-bear bunny with party hat and make up kit.

What should I do?

I have been clearing out the clutter out of my home for nearly two years now and bit by bit everything is going to the Charity shops, friends and recycling and even the rag bag box.
