The Poll, Vote for change by force

It is in my opinion of great import to this group to vote in the online poll. In order to get the kind of group you, the ones who actually use it should vote now! At present only 4 dealers/dealer-collectors have voted to change things by force, this is clearly not enough. Unless you want the chess dealers who never use this site ,to loose their grip on the pure collectors who do, then you will use your vote to change things back to how they were before the internet brought this darned freedom and democracy. We dealers cannot start a new group of our own as we cannot exist without the collectors,so our only recourse is to pretend we are a silent majority and force change through. Do not let it appear we are only a gang of four,(and bear in mind before you get your friends to join and vote ,that the moderators aren't stupid and votes for change from people who rarely if ever go on to this site will not carry much weight. If we must resort to such tactics the rather say you never went on because there were too many people enjoying themselves. Always remember we want it to be like in the old days of the CCI, weekends away in exotic locations with hotels at £3,000 for 4 nights ,and if the poor collectors couldn't afford that then we let them come and listen to our pearls of wisdom for a mere entry fee of £600. It beats me what avoiding off-topic messages has to do with dealers, democracy or CCI but I am not supposed to understand everything anyway.

Sounds like a classic "Tempest in Tea-pot" to me .......controversy has a way of sprouting up like weeds doesn't it??.........I don't understand the exact issues at hand would someone like to explain exactly what is going on?? Maybe I'm too "new" to the group to know where all this is steming from........ Art

The Poll, Vote for change by force

Kristjan I do not understand the distinction between the last two questions in the poll: “No, I do not see the problem”; and “No, I actually like the way it is”. They both imply acceptance of the status quo. So why split the voting? Alan

Kristjansander (and/or others?) Unless I have missed it described or explained somewhere, can you please answer the following questions: 1.) Who wrote up the questions for the poll? 2.) How was it determined that the questions would be posed in the way they were written? 3.) How will the poll results will be interpreted / used / applied? (And are there certain already-existing written rules that will determine that? If so, exactly who wrote them, where are they, and when were they written?) 4.) Is there a minimum of respondents needed to make such a poll "count"? 5.) If, as another example, only 50 of over 400 members vote, how will the results be determined? Will it take a majority (over 50 percent of respondents voting for one of the 5 possible answers) to affect some type of change? Would/will the answer that receives the most vote be the deciding factor? 6.) Would/will there be any appeals? 7.) If so, what is the process? 8.) Will any near and distant future decisions be made by one in "authority"? If so, how was that authority assigned? Who assigned that authority? 9.) What type of "ruling" or decision-making process exists? (That is, what kind of governance exists with respect to this ebay chess collectors group?) I am sure I could come up with some more questions, but at least for now, please let me end right here! Thank you, Kristjansander, for all of the work you do and have done with respect to this ebay chess collectors group. John, Vermont.

1) Me. 2) By my initiative. 3) No, there are no such rules. 4) The Poll is of consultative nature. I think that the minimum number of respondents has already been achieved. Every member is continously encouraged to vote and I will send another reminder in 3 days before closing of the Poll. 5) I think that we should rather operate with the number of active members who have visited the group recently. For example, 95 members have logged in since the 1st of April. I am very glad that the number of active members has considerably grown since I last counted them. 6-7) I did not understand the question. 8) If you are talking about decision upon the off-topic question, the answer is no. That's exactly the reason of the latest Poll. I have no idea what the distant future might bring. Founding this group was a decision of only one person, too. 9) Moderators consult among themselves and are willing to hear different opinions either privately or publicly.

Thank you, Alan D. of Chesspy. I await your email. Please email me asap. Chesspurr and whoever else would like to try to convince me of their "take" (opinion) on how to vote, please email me asap. I want to vote asap. I have not as yet voted. I am open to changing how I THINK I will vote. John, Vermont. PS: Kristjansander: As you see, I might not be voting this afternoon afterall. However, I do intend to vote asap and before the polling place closes! 🙂

to all i am unsure of just what is going on here. however i suspect the poll is to do with changing our group . my open, honest, up front, i dont give a damn what everyone else thinks .... is no change please ... for all its faults the group is working ,and will evolve in time , probably for the better if we continue with a hard core of chess loving collectors firing in frequent inputs to our wide range of threads.

You know, Nigel and I are sitting here trying to understand why this is such a big deal. Nigel is a particularly brilliant cat, so one would expect him to be able to figure this out, but he's as lost as I am. (But he kills flies and spiders like know one I've ever met.) Josh
