New bug from Italy

This is not strictly chess related, but watch out for this new rootkit/trojan from Italy. It has just put a London dealer off line at home, and is going to cost her a lot of money. http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/chessspy/Bugs

Re New bug from Italy

Sorry, Alan D. Chessspy. Alan F. cpe1991 wins on this one. I think he (the latter) has a byt more knowledge on the subject of viruses. And looking at his background and academic qualifications, perhaps a tad more protein in his brain to outweigh you in your mini bout here. John, Vt. BTW, 1st Alan (D.)... I have not clicked onto your link, in fear of insertion of a trojan into my system. Have I reason for caution? PS: Now, if I can only learn to be as brief as the two of you... as I sit in my briefs this early morning...

Re New bug from Italy

Hi, hohn (!) As far as I'm aware you can't get infected by downloading from picasa as these are read only files, not executable as code. I spent my formative years writing code for early 8 bit computers and designing robot arms etc. So although I'm a bit (30years!) out of date, I think I do know a little about writing code. BTW my eldest son hacked the local uni mainframe when he was 10 years old.

Code could be distributed by merely viewing pictures if the viewer has stack overflow errors. It has happened with many widely used programs.

I wouldn't expect that to occur nowadays, we didn't even allow it back in the 'good old days'

Re New bug from Italy

Hi, Alan F cpe1991. (posting # 5)... ok, I will abide. Now, where was I? Oh... Hi, Alan D Chessspy. (posting # 6)... well, will wonders ever cease? 😉 You are multi talented; nice when in new "friendships" / acquaintanceships (even cyber ones) one learns new and surprising things about them. Do you feel you may have missed your true calling (computer stuff and robot arms and all), - or are you thoroughly happy with your current trade / expertise of chess piece restoration? On the other hand, you actually do seem pretty knowledgeable about computers, bugs, etc. Tolerant Kristjan Kristjansander, (posting # 10) I clicked onto your link, it all seems like Greek to me, so guess I will stay out of it, and this may well be my last posting on this thread since I really don't know anything about the topic (see, Alan F cpe1991? I do eventually learn, but it takes a little while.) But all this stuff is a little too buggy for me... Oh, one more thing before I quit this thread... Alan F cpe1991... regarding your posting # 9, "Never argue with a well-stacked jpg."... My own jpgs of my own pictures, are not stacked, but they are sure big... still too big, apparently, to post two (even) compressed ones onto the Story Board link. They make up for micro me. Alas! I will have to check my email now to see if Robert V.D.V. had some time to further compress... And with that, that's all folks! (Clapping heard in background!) John, Vermont. PS: Please do not give me any more reason to post anything on this thread. In other words, please do not respond to me in this thread; ignore me here and only here... it should not be too hard to do!) 😉

Alan, I don't know- if you go with the flow won't you eventually just end up Out To Sea? ]:):^O
. . .

If you go with the flow you'll either get washed out to sea or be dammed.
