Furstenberg Chess Set

I am about to list a Furstenberg Chess set on Ebay. I cannot find any similar sets having been listed. I think the set is valuable. I am thinking of listing at auction beginning at $499 I'd love any advice!! FURSTENBERG BISCUIT PORCELAIN CHESS SET, 1947, the pieces taken from the original 18th century mould to commemorate the bi-centenary of the Furstenberg factory in 1947, one side a light green colour, the other side white, the king as Duke Karl I of Brunswick, the queen as his consort, Phillipine Charlotte; bishops as Johann Georg von Langen, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as turrets, pawns as peasant boys with flails, each base with ‘F’ mark, the king 9.5cm high, the pawn 6cm high.

Re: Furstenberg Chess Set

Donbeth, You may want to contact ebayer (who is also a curator of the Long Island Chess Mueseum), Floyd Sarisohn at Lichess@aol.com I believe that Floyd is generally knowledgeable about Porcelain sets (and is also an avid collector of them.) John, (Vermont) PS: I am sure that some other ebayers are also admirers of Porcelain chess sets, but Floyd's name is the one that comes to immediately comes to mind. PPS: There is also a collector in Great Britain (a Tony Raynes? spelling???...) who is also an avid collector of porcelain chess sets.

Re: Furstenberg Chess Set

Furstenberg sets have sold on ebay before. Usually for less than $400. However, one never knows what prices may be bid on ebay. A number of CCI members purchased sets at the factory when we visited it during a CCI meeting in Germany. Floyd Lichess

Re: Furstenberg Chess Set

Here is a reply from Tony Raynes Hi Guy, Thanks for thinking about me. At present I am on holiday in Italy for 10 days. Furstenburg set, quite common. Unless very lucky, best price is about £300 if it is standard White v Green. If different colours, get him to send me a photo. aeraynes@aol.com

Re: Furstenberg Chess Set

Hi, Floyd Lichess, To answer your question to me, which you posted on this thread (message #4), yes... I did receive a copy of the Convention program. Thank you very much! It was great to read the articles within it. Apologies for not doing my customary personal email to you and thanking you for it. For some reason (maybe, in part, a Bay of Fundy "vacation"?) personally and privately thanking you escaped me! However, since you brought it up in this public forum (and now, that everyone sees that I am one of your "favorites"... 😉 so much so, that you generously and voluntarily sent me a Convention Program... (and I do not know if it was sent to every CCI member who did not attend the Convention). And if the program has not been sent to each and every CCI member (who did not attend the convention)... well, now, (in my imagination and fantasy world) everyone will be exceedingly jealous of me and hate me even more than they already do... BUT and HOWEVER, I will thank you even further... since I tend to have a masochistic and victim mentality.... (as well as, apparently, an overindulgence of words, paragraphs, and non-sensical sentences.... and I appreciate any attention I can get... positive or negative... but especially negative... (where are you, Mick of Candyworld? 😉 I kiss (whoops!) I mean miss your occasional sheepish comments here and there.... which reminds me that the Sheep lamenting thread has been going hungry, and might just need some feeding)... And speaking of missing folks... (boy, talking about looseness of association and fluidness of consciousness...) I miss the Alans of Great Britain... the one who has not posted in many many months (the one with the "D" after his first name) and the other Alan (F) cpe1991 who apparently recently left this group right here... yes... despite our past differences, variety of pictures and whatever... I already miss him, his input, his humor, his serious side, his research. and even his frequent "change of clothing" with respect to his Avatars! As the John Donne saying goes, (a relative of your, Donbeth?) "Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind" (even if the death or departure is figuratively on ebay...) So, Floyd, to get back to the catalyst for this message, a simple "thank you" to you, Floyd, is in order! So... Thank you, Floyd! :-) (Or is it that simple, and must I continue?....) Well, all, you can just ignore all of my (perhaps perceived and judged) mumbo-jumbo above... or you can continue... John. (PS: Hmmmm.... maybe almost time for a knightly lamenting... maybe not... "only the shadow knows...") PPS: Donbeth, now, even though I believe that your question has been answered, by now you may have seen some of the recent postings on the other threads... Are you SURE you want to be part of this crazy and fun-loving group? Too late! You're a member! Welcome to the funny farm! Sometimes serious; sometimes helpful; sometimes funny; sometimes tiresome; sometimes quiet and sometimes roaring; sometimes harmful; sometimes researched based; sometimes pleasant; sometimes mean and ridiculing; sometimes boring; sometimes zombie-like; sometimes "chit-chatty"; sometimes well controlled and sometimes not; sometimes too critical and sometimes not critical enough... all very difficult in a multi-cultural and multi socio-economic and multi (formal) educational level and multi-personality and backgrounds of chess collectors in this ebay chess collecting world. Hmmm.... seems just like life / are reflection of it... I do not envy the duties and responsibilities of this group's co-leaders and moderator... it is a difficult job to judge and make decisions... I also do not envy the positions of some contributors to these threads (the positions that they either place themselves in... or the positions in which they are placed...) Long live all of you! I love you all! 🙂
