Art of gevork6, I suggest you give Floyd (Lichess@aol.com) a buzz. I think he knows the name of the crafter, who is of Eastern European (I think?) descent and who makes relatively unique sets. I think that older gentleman crafter lives in the U.S. That fellow was at the Chess Fair at the last "Western Hemisphere" CCI meeting two years ago, which took place on the north shore of Long Island. Hi all, this may be worth a thread of its own and if so please move it to the appropriate place. The subject is chess boards. I have found very little information on them. I understand Jaques marked at least some of there output, otherwise how do you know a collectable from ? What makes a $600 board worth $600? I try to match my sets to my boards, what fits and what feels right. Any information on boards, including linnen folding and others. I hope this sparks some interest, I could certainly use the education. Thanks, Charlie

computojon Hello Jon. If Vermont does succeed in seceeding then the USA can declare war on it! Wait that sounds like the movie "The Mouse that Roared"! 🙂 Brad

Brad, how dare you speak to the fake jon (of computoland) behind my back! 🙂 BTW, "The Mouse That Roared" was ALSO a movie... but then again, maybe you don't read many books aside from the Bible, eh? (Touche!) 🙂 Only kidding, of course... (I hope that God has a sense of humor as apparent as I believe you have one! And on a final note (well, maybe not "final", since you do realize this is the real John talking...) be very careful of meeses... we tend to have a very large chip on our shoulders. And if we don't get you in size, we get you in numbers! 🙂 Johnny Appleseed of Vermont!

Good morning, Rick of Rickofricks... You may now rest on this Sunday morning. [Yes... I guess I am being a little(?) presumptuous here thinking that you were "waiting with baited breath" to see if I winded up having the winning bid on the Derby Knights chess set. Then again, it did seem to dismay you that I had kept repeating myself by asking for a relatively inexpensive ("reasonably priced") Derby Knights Chess Set. Well, voi-la! I now (will soon have) my Derby Knight Chess set, as I did have the winning (and only) bid. Hmmmm. Is that saying something about my "taste"? :-) Now the only question is, how will I come up with the difference I still need to pay the full amount in the M.O. I will send tomorrow? Well, I guess there is always my wife's pocketbook! :-) Gotta go out for my walk now... Have a good and restful day, all! John, Vermont.

Hello John. It was also a movie!? Hmmm? Oh, I do have wuite a library of books and they are not all Bibles... but come to think of it they are all Bible related!! Except for the chess, science, math and history ones that is 😉 Man, I have not read a novel in a long time. I used to read a lot of sci-fi but it seems like a lifetime ago. I loved the Berserker series... Well, I hope that I haven't gotten of subject.. Cheers....Brad

Hi John, I breathed a big sigh of relief to hear that you'll have your derby knights. To get the full stampeding use out of it, I recommend you start playing Alekhine's defense. Just don't start betting big bucks on those horses ... or this could the the last set you buy. I hope they're everything you expect... Rick

Last night my friend Ciaran Rochford stopped by for a visit. It was great to see him, and we had a great time looking at various chess sets and catching up on our recent collecting activities. If the last name is familiar, it's because Ciaran is Dermot's son!

copputojon hi jon if there is one thing as a collector i like alot , it is having a fellow collector see my humble collection ,at our home . vizam and i ,are both going to london for the sale ,and we enjoy visiting each other. another fellow collector ,who is also a friend ,had me to his home to see his collection ,will also be joining us. the fantastic thing about looking at other collections ,is one can often see a set that appeals ,and if it pops up on e bay ,bidding for it is far easier ,as you are familiar with it . i sure hope to add to my list of meeting fellow collectors at my home or theirs.

To ALL attending the CCI Western Hemisphere meeting: Have a great time in California! I will miss being there and seeing all of you again (but that was my own choice, due primarily to overall cost.) I have been glad and lucky that for a few years, there were CCI events on the East Coast of the USA. I never regretted going to any of them! John, Vermont. PS: Actually, I wonder if any of you will be reading this... if you are smart, you will be partying it up out there... enjoying the weather, the sightseeing, the company, and of course, chess stuff! 🙂

Cut & Paste from St. George thread knight_knight_zzz (80 ) 05/27/07 01:24 AM (#22 of 24) Hello, Guy Chesspurr, Kristen Kristjansander, Jim act1515, Dermot Dermotr, and of course Ty NeOromantic. (I hope I have not left anyone out here!) Since I know so very little (relatively speaking) about the St. George, Old English, Calvert, Northern Uprights, etc., I have not added anything to this thread. But let me tell all of you that I am going to print up all of those posted messages on this thread and thoroughly read them and attempt to understand all of the discussion. It is about time I learn about them. So, I want to thank all of you (maybe this should go in the "simple gratitude thread"? I don't know anymore.) for all the time and effort, resulting in good discussion (and even results)! you have done on this thread. Great job! John, Vermont. knight_knight_zzz (80 ) 05/27/07 01:27 AM (#23 of 24) Alan Chessspy... of course, you would post something a mere 3 minutes or so - right before I posted mine... so of course, I had left your name out! So the purpose of this message is to include you in the thanks (and not to add another posting for my own numbers game with Chesspurr!) Or is it? John, Vermont. knight_knight_zzz (80 ) 05/27/07 01:33 AM (#24 of 24) Alan of chessspy... Whoops! I am wrong again...! In looking back on this thread, I see that back in April you DID post on this thread! So, now all I can say (well... that's not true... I could say a heck of a lot more but I will restrain myself!) is that: 1.) I have to do a better job reading, and 2.) I wish that you and Chesspurr had at least slightly differing spelled names (to gross observation)... and I don't mean gross in the derogatory sort of way, but in the use of the word meaning the opposite of microscopic. John, Vermont

Greetings from London! Ty - on another thread you mentioned problems with long URLs, I've had that problem, one answer is to use www.tinyurl.com to turn any long URL into a short URL. Meanwhile I haven't had time to catch up on other threads, unfortunately because of the travel to London, etc.
