How to compress pictures?

Hello Everyone! I have read that it is best to keep ones pictures to the 50kb range. How do you "compress" a picture down to that size? I currently have a listing for an earring-necklace set that I can't seem to get below 150kb. I have Photoshop 6 and have already saved the pic in the lowest quality setting... Any ideas??? Thanks! Ebay automatically compresses uploaded images, if you are linking to an external site you can use photoshop to save as a jpeg with a quality of 2 and optimized for 14.4 connection you should end up with under 40 k in size. also crop the pics and reduce the image down to 300 by 300 or less pixels

if you only have a 14.4 connection these days, you probably don't have any extra money to be shopping on ebay! also, not everyone has $700 to drop on photoshop. but there are plenty of other programs that do the same thing. here's one such site: http://www.netmechanic.com/GIFBot/optimize-graphic.htm i just tried it and it took my 76k image and reduced it to around 15k with not too much noticeable change. you'll get as many as 10 options, so you can make your image files a little smaller or a lot smaller, depending on the quality you're willing to settle for! How to compress pictures?

So how do I find out what size my pics are that are being listed with my auctions? I am competing in the very tough market of jewelry - hand made jewelry at that. If my pictures are taking too long to download - the potential buyer has already moved on... I have high speed at home and at work, so everything downloads pretty quickly and I don't know how things look for someone with dial-up mustangabbaman

Are you using Ebay's picture service? or are you linking to another site for the pics, and prairieprimitives you are dead wrong, a large majority of shoppers do not have high speed connections, even if your filthy rich you may not live close enough to the backbone or the local switch to get high speed internet, and many other countries are way behing in that department as well. 30% of the computer users still have win98 or earlier for an o/s. As a web developer and computer tech (I own San Diego Computer Services) I have some experience in these matters. mustangabbaman right click on the pic your lookin at and go to properties it will show you the size and the bytes.
