Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold Checked

For days now when I do a search for Sold Listings by checking the box in left hand column it now automatically clicks the Completed Listings also? I can then go back and remove the check for Completed Listings, it does refresh but then it only shows a small fraction of the Sold Listings and even though the Sort is Time: Newly Listed as you go down the page you have a sold item May-6 08:23 then next sold item is May-5 20:45 then next sold item is May-6 05:42 and so on (times are not in order) and about 75% of the sales are not even there. We do a search each day to see sold prices of similar items we are going to list. Right now this search is of little help since most of it is not even there. It would appear to be some kind of glitch in the Search engine but not finding much on it anywhere here in the boards. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

I've noticed this starting yesterday.   We need to see "Sold" items since for research purchases you need to see what actually was paid.   It now takes much longer, particularly if you run dozens of these searches.  It selects both SOLD and COMPLETED.  You can go back & try to remove the check mark, but it is often fussy about this, and can take several tries.   PLEASE FIX THIS EBAY.   I sense they may have done this on purpose.  I hope not.

Not seeing this problem.

Checking "Sold" filter on left nav produces only "Sold" search results, and "Completed" checkbox does not get checked in Firefox 3.6.24 and Firefox 31.

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

In theory, websites should work with all reasonable versions of supported browsers, but there are major differences between the way browsers handle things (different interpretations of CSS, HTML5, etc standards, propriety functions, different JavaScript engines, ...)

Complicated websites dish a totally different stew of CSS, JavaScript, and HTML depending on the browser detected, and sometimes when website changes are made, not all of the modules (or subsections of modules) for all the browsers get updated, or not all get update correctly.

(No hard data, but from observation I'd say eBay has hundreds to thousands of JavaScript modules that load for various functions, various pages, various browsers, various test groups, and so on)

Based on the various reports of different issue with search here in the forums recently, it looks eBay has been messing with the code, and likely that they broke something with Chrome.

(this issue is an example of why it's important for posters to disclose what browser and browser version they are using when posting about a problem - helps to narrow things down and see patterns)

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

At one point today Google worked as it should - Check for Sold listings and only Sold listings came up and Completed did not automatically get checked - times and dates all in order. Now a few hours later and back to original problem. So went back to Firefox and now it also automatically clicks the Completed Listings? I can then go back and remove the check for Completed Listings, it does refresh but then it only shows a small fraction of the Sold Listings and even though the Sort is Time: Newly Listed as you go down the page times are not in order and about 75% of the sales are not even there???

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like there is something about the newer browser versions you are using that is incompatible with changes eBay has made. I use Firefox 3.6.24 as my workhorse eBay browser (and half a dozen other separate installs of it for other groups of sites and functions), and Firefox31 for things like reading and posting in the forums here, and other eBay actions that don't work in 3.6.24 any more)

eBay IS messing with the search pages today (among others). The layout of the normal search page changed this morning sometime and broke hundreds of lines of modifications I use to change the search results view, remove eBay suggestions, etc. (and the new page is a useless eyesore so far - I just discovered it and haven't looked in depth to see what's going on)

If I switch the searches to the other form       https://www.ebay.com/DSC/i.html?_nkw=foo+bar

everything still works fine in Firefox3.6.24, including the sold and completed functions, and it looks like eBay hasn't messed up that page format (yet - I know they will)

My solution is to use older versions of Firefox in spite of the potential security issues using older browsers that don't have the security updates that the new versions do. I'm not worried. I block scripting, Flash, ads, tons of websites and IPs, etc, run the browser in a sandbox, use the FF3.6.24 eBay browser only for eBay, Craigslist, FedEx, UPS, and a couple of other (trusted?) sites, and mostly sort of know what I'm doing after 35 years of online computing, hacking/programming, etc. I don't rely on the browser to be my primary defense layer, and it has worked to date - zero issues, infections, malware, and have visited probably hundreds of thousands of websites, installed thousands of pieces of software, and don't run any active AV/antimalware software. Paying attention and a lot of luck 🙂

Anyway, I think you are just going to have to wait for eBay to fix your issues (wouldn't hold my breath), hope that the changes they are making to search accidentally fix the issue (more likely than them directly fixing the problem), or if you understand the risks, and use the approach as a specialized tool, run an older version of Firefox for doing your eBay business (use an adblocker, don't use that browser for any websites but eBay and other trusted? sites, etc.)

Some info on using Firefox Portable versions (can be run alongside existing "regular" Firefox installs):

One thing you might try is to try both search page varieties, and seeing one works differently.

The default eBay search page has been accessed via
   https://www.ebay.com/SCH/i.html?_nkw=foo+bar
for a long time (and that is the one that seems to have seriously changed today), and this variety
   https://www.ebay.com/DSC/i.html?_nkw=foo+bar
popped up on occasion (and I never figured out what is supposed to be the difference or when/why it appeared). That latter form still works fine for me. You may notice no differences, but easy enough to do. Just change the SCH in an existing search URL and load that page and see.

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

I use my iPhone every day to compare sold and completed listings before I buy items to resell. Using IOS 11.3.1 and Safari browser. As of today, I cannot switch to the Classic Site. Also, the search page that appears does not give any Refine menu options. The only menu available is Sort. If this is a permanent situation, it pretty much shuts me down on eBay unless there is a workaround. I’ve tried going in through Chrome and Firefox but get the same results. Would appreciate any suggestions including any apps that might provide a replacement to mobile eBay. Being able to QUICKLY research on the go is critical. Hope this is just temporary.

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

It has nothing to do with browsers.

Ebay has messed around with the search protocols, and as usual with their changes, most searches now do not work as well as they did a few days ago.

Seriously, ebay:  the changes to search functions, rolled out recently, DO NOT WORK.

Another example:  I often do a search in a particular category (such as Native Americn, US) and specify listings started within 24 hours.   Results in 2500 items.   When I do a sub-search for a term within that search (such as baskets) I used to get only baskets in that category, started within 24 hours,  perhaps 80 items.

Now, the sub-search deletes the "started within 24 hours" filter, and searches for the term within all listings in the category; returning 3,500 items.   Really.   I search for a specific term within the 2500 results, and come up with 3500.

This is the same issue as with the sold and completed filters; recent ebay changes have made those filters and probably many others work incorrectly. Why does ebay think it is helpful to remove filters, automatically and randomly, whenver one tries to search?

Any chance of a fix, or better yet, ROLL BACK the changes?

But of course, ebay never rolls anything back.   Or fixes anything.

For pete’s sake!  Does anyone from eBay’s technical team check this board?  I’ve send requests for help via Facebook Messenger but no response so far.

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

The completed listings getting checked along with solds is happening to me now too, but is irrelevant, at least for me.

When I check sold, the completed checkbox autochecks, but the search returns only sold listings, and as far as I can tell returns the correct number of sold results.

If I uncheck sold, both completed and sold uncheck, and active listing results are returned.

If I check completed, completed listings are returned.

Either eBay changed their use of the word completed to include sold (sold listings are technically completed listings), or it's just a cosmetic programming screwup - but it doesn't affect the results I see.

As far as the "newly listed" sort problem - The dates shown on the sold listings are the sold dates which have next to nothing to do with the listing date (some items sell minutes after listing, others take 3 years). As far as I can see, the results are being sorted by listing date newest to oldest.

So not sure what you think is supposed to happen there (I have never used newly listed for any view - active, sold, completed - so don't know how it behaved before the recent changes).

You could try using the DSC substitution workaround I outlined in post 7 that pulls up the old search interface (the change seems to stick until the search button is hit again, but does stick with filter changes. The workaround could be made to stick by using Redirector addon in Firefox to automatically force the URL back to the DSC variant whenever eBay tries to revert it to the new, undesired sch variant )

Re: Completed & Sold Search Not Working Right Completed Listings Checked Automatically When Sold

Update for URL workaround:

I suggested using DSC substituted for SCH in the search URLS with DSC and SCH uppercased in my posts to indicate the changes, but it turns out eBay doesn't parse the uppercase variants correctly.

use search URLs of the form:    https://www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?....   to see the old search interface for now.

The Redirector addon in Firefox along with this simple rule:

ebay_redirector_search_sch_to_dsc.gif

Makes it totally transparent. When eBay tries to use the new sch version, the addon intercepts the request, converts the URL to the dsc version, and the old search page loads (for now until eBay changes that too)
