I have mainly been selling military surplus gear since I started here a few months ago. My sales have dropped to nearly zero in the past few weeks. I'm sure some of it is due to the horrid economy, high food and gas prices, etc., but I'm wondering if there is another problem. Is the surplus market glutted, or something?

There is a lot of surplus available. I don't about a glut. The economy is the biggie. Until we get a real president, I'm afraid it will be a struggle.

It has been a struggle for sure. But I do get nice feedback from folks I have sold items to, so I am grateful for that.

I hate to say this but it may be that your sales have dropped because you have a 96% feedback rating.
Also, if I may, your pics are really quite dark. I realize that if you look at them on a cel phone they appear as you took them, but you need to add some more light to your pics so they stand out better. If you go to each listing on a desktop and click on your photos you can lighten them somewhat and you'll be able to see what I'm talking about. You'll only get what the camera saw but it may be better than what you have now. Your prices are quite good but and this is only a suggestion as I have sold a LOT of clothing here on ebay, you should measure your items. I always give, sleeve length - from back of the mid collar to end of cuff, underarm to underarm, length - from back of mid collar to hem and finally collar for all of your jackets & shirts. Then waist, inseam, front & rear rise for pants. I know this sounds like a hassle, but I know when I shop , it's a hassle for me to have to ask the seller for all of these measurements. I do hope that I haven't come across like a debbie downer, but you were wondering why your sales had fallen and I'm just giving you my 2 cents. Of course it all be only worth what you paid for it ...zip😁
The very best ~
