Help with hallmark on sardine fork

Hello to all!

Well this is my first time here, as this really isn't my "area." I hoping for some guidance.

I've been searching for this hallmark for weeks.

I've been here www.sterlingflatwarefashions.com/

& here:

https://www.925-1000.com/

Part of the problem is I really cannot make out 2 of the symbols, one looks like an "S" and the other looks like a Crown, but the other two I cannot make out.

I've found a couple of patterns very similar to this, but not exact (New Queen Gorham) and the other I believe was simply called King, I don't remember the mfg. name.

Any ideas on the maker or pattern?

Thanks to all who take the time to look/reply.

Thanks laurless, I had to walk away I was getting buggy. Probably spending to much time on nothing. BUT after a while it becomes an obsession 🙂 Usually it takes me a while but I can find the hallmark or pattern!

FWIW, Lea has it absolutely correct. The marks appear to be pseudo hallmarks to me, and the possible plating wear could be confirming that analysis. These are not German silver hallmarks, nor are they British silver marks. IMHO

Agreed jrkirk,

I think I was just getting obsessed with finding out who made this piece.

Like I said, probably spending way too much time on nothing 🙂

That's what happens when you get laid up with a bad knee-you get bored and start obsessing over things you would normally just let go.

Re: Help with hallmark on sardine fork

Pauline, not sure you get it yet, so let me try again. The pattern is apparently 'Kings', made by many makers prior to the 1890's, and Kings, and other old similar patterns, is/are used by makers of reproduction silver flatware, who mark their wares with fake silver hallmarks. The marks are difficult to read because that is exactly the effect the repro makers want. The apparent wear on plating shows how thin the silver plating appears to be. Where did you find this 'fork'?

Re: Help with hallmark on sardine fork

Hi jrkirk, I understand it's a repro.

This came in a box lot of mixed flatware & silverware we purchased at an auction. I pulled a few pieces to sell and the balance we scrapped. This piece I thought was interesting so I held onto it.
